Can I create a series for the issues of a comic magazine?

monkey[m]
I think that's also what some other users do

Might be worth searching BookBrainz for some examples

There isn't currnetly a style guide for how to enter those, but there are some discussions on the topic in the community forums

I'll check the forums as well

<zemeles[m]> "I mean comics that got a new..." <- For manga, we prefer creating individual works for each chapter because of the individual chapters are serialized separately in magazines, at least in Japan. I'm less familiar with Western comics, but I think they are usually serialized at the issue level, right?

Yes, you're right

I'd suggest creating a work per issue and a work series for the issues in that case

The comics I'd like to add were release every one or two months and contain short stories that don't span across multiple issues but they also don't constitute a chapter in a greater narrative

Ah, the short stories might make it more of a pain then, since we usually try to put short stories in their own works

I see

Well, the issues usually contain 3-4 stories so that won't be a problem

By short story, do you mean actual text or do you mean a "comics story"?

Okay, so, I wouldn't worry about creating a work for each comics story then, just the issue. When a comics story is published individually in some form, then it would make sense to create individual works per story.

One last question
2025-11-24 32836, 2025
zemeles[m]
How do I denote the issue number?
2025-11-24 32848, 2025
zemeles[m]
Do I write it next to the comic's name?
2025-11-24 32802, 2025
jwillikers[m]
Yes, I'd write series name #issue number, i.e. Wendy Witch World #18 looking at an example from GCD

Now I know everything I need to know in order to add my comic books
<aerozol[m]> "Hmm, do you think it's worth..." <- it can't hurt to try, at the very least someone can ask them to create a bookartarchive collection - https://help.archive.org/help/collections-a-basic…
2025-11-24 32850, 2025
bitmap[m]
that would at least give BB a place to upload images, there just won't be any thumbnail generation
2025-11-24 32811, 2025
aerozol[m]
That would be amazing bitmap - let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Everyone's different, but I am one of those for whom pictures/scans are crucial
2025-11-24 32837, 2025
aerozol[m]
More broadly speaking, it possibly would also be BBs only point of difference/advantage to other databases? Though maybe there's one that has really high res images, that I don't know about

It could serve as a temporary solution until an offical Book Cover archive us created

I guess the only consideration would be if things could be moved later (if a 'proper' archive was created) and how we deal with having giant images with no thumbnails to display

Oh and I don't want to diminish rayyan_seliya's work with this, so amazing to have external images!! And that would work great in tandem with the option to upload

Thx aerozol @aerozol:matrix.org: glad to know u liked it will working more on that after me end sem exams already got some review comments on the or and also will look onto having both external sources and an upload option as your suggestion will talk with monkey @monkey:chatbrainz.org: too on this and thx for the suggestion !
