I think I've found a regression in Picard, I have a release that has forward slashes being interpreted literally on save. Either a regression or a bug, bad in either case.
The behavior seems slightly undesireable in any case

VxJasonxV: Good catch. That's an issue of the "replace non ASCII" function turning / into a ASCII slash. I'll see to get this fixed. But in your case you'd probably want to disable the "replace non-ascii" option anyway, doesn't really give you any useful filenames with Japanese script
fwiw, I've recently spotted this discussion come up on social media: https://tech.lgbt/@johannes/106437211204605711 and it might be something that needs moderator intervention to solve some edit wars (and honestly, it's something the current style guidelines really don't cover well)

I think this was a digital release updated in-place by changing the name/account name on bandcamp
which is something that we have no guidelines on how to handle afaik

Actually, a "withdrawn" release status really would make sense to have in several cases that I know of. It would indicate a release that was officially available, but then removed from sale at the request of artist or rightsholder (rather than, for example, simply going out of print)
It's kind of a compromise proposal, but I hope that it would be considered an improvement for this situation.

there's some canonical examples of "withdrawn" which unfortunately I'm spacing on right now
but I've come across them before..
oh, "the black album" by prince
is the big one.
hrm, though that was withdrawn after promo and before release...
(which is very, very common)

in his case.. I think we definialy need ot add < new release with the right name, change the artist name and RG's (and maybe eve nrecordings?) to the new name
but yea. as unfortiunatly as it is the truth *was* that it was released with a deadname
i really like kepsins idea

chaban: if you're reading this, while i strongly disagree with brigadeering, I would suggest you reword sentences like "It would sadden me if MusicBrainz were to succumb to ideology and deny past events based on feelings." to not sound so insensitive
these are not "feelings", it matters to people A LOT
terms like "succumb to ideology" does not belong in mb
I agree that past information must be maintained
but that is inflamatory language
Freso: ˆˆ^this seems like it could blow up into a flame war unles kept an eye on
