Is there a tool to diff to releases? For https://musicbrainz.org/cdtoc/cIOpaTLd0pvja43a5... , the SE variant looks bogus, at least in this very web page. Would be nice to see the actual differences between the two, side by side.

olh: the Swedish release event was added in 2006, when we had only one release with several events
So, it should be (or originally have been) exactly the same
Oh, no, actually, the other was added later :)
So, the Swedish one was the original add
olh
I guess both could be merged into a XE release.
reosarevok
Only if they had the same barcode, legal text etc all around Europe
(I don't know the album)
Sweden was probably picked because they needed to pick something and the artist is Swedish, anyway
olh
Well, if a person in Madrid would have entered a CD, and I got my copy in Berlin, surely I would not go and add another copy. Well, unless I'm in the right mood and check if the details are indeed identical.
s/copy/release/
So, this specific case looks to me like a useless dup, which does nothing bug to interrupt whipper asking for input.
reosarevok
As I said, this was the original add many years before the FR one was added :) But no, you wouldn't add another copy unless it has different details (But hopefully you also wouldn't submit the discID to the existing one unless you've checked those details :) )
olh
so, what to do about it?
reosarevok
If you can't find a source for it, and given the lack of info, you could just merge it, I guess
olh
My physical medium is called "PLATINUM CDR" ...
ev
sounds like a promo item to me
unless they actuallyy distributed all the releases on CDRs
olh
an that is all I got. Who knows who went off with the original a decade ago.
ev
so, am I understanding correctly, that disc ID above is from your CD-R copy?
olh
yes, sure.
so the merge UI is not clear to me. If I select the SE entry, in which the FR entry should be merged into, do I have to use "Merge" or "Append"? The default appears to be append.
reosarevok
Append will give you two discs, merge one
So you want merge
olh
Why does it list both, apparently identical, track lists? Are they not actual identical? At the first glance they are. But this is the place where I expected a (friendly) "diff -u" output.
ah, "Merge" changes the help text.
ev
olh where does it say "PLATINUM CDR"?
is that printed on the disc proper?
or is it a sticker or something?
olh
No. It could also have been "VERBATIM" or whatever. Just another name for "Sicherheitskopie"...
Just cleaning up the house, found old crap.
ev
Sorry, I'm really confused. Are you saying that was the box the disc in or is it something that is printed on the disc proper?
Because if it's something printed on the disc at the factory, I would doubt you have one of the releases listed on Musicrainz, or on Discogss (no CDRs there)
reosarevok
I understand they don't have the original, just this :)
(anymore)
ev
OK, so it's a copy of the original, makes sense.
olh
I guess next Friday morning I will know what the outcome of https://musicbrainz.org/edit/85107184 actually is. The UI does not show that, if there are conflicts or the like.
Hey there! I'm not new to Musicbrainz I've been contributing for a while but I kinda miss some kind of review of the edits/additions. For example I just added this release: https://musicbrainz.org/release/9bc5e8ab-9283-4... and have serious doubts about the track capitalization. Can someone help me doing it right?
In a more general way, I don't know if such a thing exists but is there some kind of peer review / mentoring process?

uZer: well, there's voting, and people who are following any artist or label here will be notified of your edit
uZer
The problem is I usually get no vote on any edit/addition I make
reosarevok
Then you might be editing a bit more obscure stuff, or mostly doing it right :)
Asking here is always ok
Here I'm a bit confused because bandcamp is all lowercase, and the release is too - except the last, German-titled track
I'd expect either all-lowercase is artist intent and it overrides German, or it is not and then everything follows guidelines
Other than that, it all looks good to me
uZer
Yeah I'm clearly adding obscure stuff most of the time x) I think this release is lowercase by artist intent too, but I had doubts for the last tracks, thanks for the info!
reosarevok
You could add works to be able to indicate "written by", and add "produced" to the tracks
From what I can tell from back covers at Discogs most of the barcodes are with the wrong release country anyway. Dunno if I want to be the one untangling it tbh!
hey uZer, I've subscribed to your edits so they will pop up in my emails. But honestly I probably wont comment unless you've done something weird/wrong :P As Reo says, no news is good news!!
uZer
Oh thanks you aerozol! I'm following your twitch channel since a few weeks but didn't get the chance to see you stream yet (maybe a timezone problem :P)
aerozol
Hehe probably, living in the +12 timezone is pretty special! Hey, isn't it time for a new album from you btw??
Everything is from jam sessions we did this summer and previous one :')
I'm the little nerd behind the modularsynth, hi! haha
aerozol
nerds 4 life!!
uZer
Thanks for the review and the tools aerozol! I also added Works on my own albums since it's something I know better, and... haha yeah ok it's a lot of work :') Thanks for pointing this is something needed/useful reosarevok!
I see the value (esp with classical), but I honestly have too much to add to the DB that takes precedence
uZer
haaa thanks for the null.part addition :D
wow amazing you added my friend's profiles
reosarevok
aerozol: boooooo :p
(but fair, for non-reused stuff)
aerozol
;P
uZer
Can a digital release have a barcode? (e.g a album with CD medium + Digital release on bandcamp, barcode on bandcamp, should I put the barcode in the Digital Release too?)
aerozol
totally, if the barcode is on bandcamp I would add it to the digital release
Spotify and Deezer every release has a barcode
sublim20 joined the channel
uZer
ok thanks
another question sorry :D is there a magic script to find all streaming for free/buy URL for a specific release?
Sylvhem joined the channel
ev
uZer: many digital releases have an UPC
if you have the bandcamp userscript it will reveal the associated UPC
uZer
ah wow perfect, I was not familiar with this whole UPC thing, I found the atisket page and the "summit to MB" button :O
