so, for the purposes of MB (and Discogs) they're not "the same" but they have the same music on them.

Where do you see that it's a different pressing?

CatQuest: yeah, the number of tracks criterion for EP vs single vs. album seems fuzzy to me. but in the world of dance music releases that I mostly tag, almost everything is an EP unless it's a single (named after a contained track, multiple versions of that track on it, etc.)
PelvicSorcery: Matrix / Runout: 069490415
vs. Matrix / Runout (Variant 1 ): 069 490 4152 01$ M MADE IN USA BY PMDC
Also, I just realized I pulled the disc out to look at it while it was in the middle of ripping. Doh!

Hello
I've been making a web-app with the last.fm api, and it only shows track MBID's and not release MBID's.
Is there any way I can make an api call to musicbrainz/coverartarchive with the track MBID to get the cover art of a release?

Lucasz10: yes (though I am not an API expert). The problem you are likely to run into is that one recording may be on multiple releases.
I understand the devs hang out in #metabrainz and you may get better answers there.
kepstin
Lucasz10: note that last.fm has flopped back and forth on returning track vs. recording mbids in that field, and *unless* you submit a track mbid with every scrobble, the mbids returned are wrong more often than right :/
Lucasz10
kepstin: that's unfortunate
crism: I'll try asking around in there then
kepstin
Lucasz10: i'd probably recommend trying it as a track mbid, browse using /ws/2/release?track=MBID&inc=release-groups and then use the release group to get the cover art.
if that doesn't work (not found) it might be a recording id, in which case it's a bit more of a mess. You can do a release browse with /ws/2/release?recording=MBID but then you have to match the album name to find the release yourself.
so using a search query might be better there, hmm.
CatQuest
(alternatively import into lb and do it via there :D)
idk what your last.fm use case is though
Lucasz10
CatQuest: I'm making an auto-generating blog that put's my most listened to songs into a nice layout. Last.fm doesn't show album covers half of the time though, so I'm using MusicBrainz to get the album art
kepstin
you could import your data into listenbrainz and then pull from that instead :)
but i suppose that still doesn't really help with the cover art matching.
honestly, there's probably less cover art in musicbrainz/caa than in last.fm, tho it might vary depending on music genre
Maybe of interest to people here: I wrote a small tool that generates Atom feeds (similar to RSS feeds) for artists releases on Spotify and Bandcamp (more platforms may be added relatively simple, if you have requests): https://releasefeed.elomatreb.eu/
PelvicSorcery
The cover art uploader says that it supports allmusic, but when I go to the cover art tab that isn't an option.
Am I missing something?
CatQuest
... what?
that must be a script
anyway just either paste the url i gave you or dl it and upload it oldfashionedly
PelvicSorcery
allmusic doesn't want to give me the url, hence why I was attempting to use the script.
I think it's because when I tried to add allmusic to the release it yelled at me that it should be on the release group.

Any ideas why allmusic cover import isn't working?

PelvicSorcery: which script are you using?
PelvicSorcery
The cover art importer script. AFAIK there's only one.
Looking through the code, it seems weird to me that this should have worked at all, since it has a regex that doesn't match any of the allmusic URLs I can see
PelvicSorcery
It doesn't even show a button for me. But it says allmusic is supported in the list of hosts.
elomatreb[m]
that would be consistent with it rejecting the URL. I tried it by pasting the URL into the textbox
