Hi, I'm creating a new artist and as disambiguation I'm thinking on writing "acoustic piano/guitar/music box versioner". Would that be correct? I'm sure there's a better word than "versioner" :-) for... you know, an artist that makes simple versions of famous songs.

antlarr: idk, cover version or the like,
"makes versions of" yea i don't know tbh
i'd say just write whatever and explain in the anotation. any one else cna come and edit/improve
but make sure aerozol doesnt coem and remove words :P
antlarr
hehehe
thanks!
CatQuest
that looks great actually 👍

CatQuest: Should probably be ‘an artist that makes acoustic piano/guitar/music box versions’ to not leave contextual gaps ;)
‘…versions of songs’, really
But seriously, re. versions/versioner, maybe ‘covers’ instead?

I don't really know what's the difference between a "cover of a song" and a "version of a song", but in this case, I'm more inclined to use version, since it's quite different and I understand a cover tries to be a "remake"
I thought a cover was just a version by someone else than the artist
You can have a metal cover of a folksy singer-songwriter song and it's still a cover :)
atj
yes, they're a cover artist
antlarr
ok, I'll change the disambiguation to "artist that makes acoustic piano/guitar/music box covers"
btw, according to the wikipedia, even if the original artist records a song again, that's considered a cover
reosarevok
Yeah - we don't usually have that strict a view of it in MB, although the term is pretty badly defined
antlarr
from what I see... it's anything that's not the first recording of a song :)
atj
to be honest that disambiguation seems excessively long, is there an artist with the same name who does electric piano covers?
"cover artist" would almost certainly be sufficient to disambiguate

Hello, I got a 32-track version of "Atomic Heart (Original Game Soundtrack) Vol.2" from music.youtube.com (https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy...); that release doesn't seem to be in the musicbrainz database; and the version picard found for me is missing track 28-Neptune.
reosarevok
moviuro: if there's several releases with / without extra tracks, then we should add a new release in the same release group :)
moviuro
I have no idea how to do that. I'll have a look this evening Europe/Paris time if I can get some documentation/help to do that
there track 28 Neptune is clearly there, and for the MB release track 28 just was left out (there is track 27 and 29, and nothing in between)
moviuro
weird, picard used track 28 instead of 29, etc. (28 Shrouded in Mystery, 29 Arlekino, etc.)
outsidecontext
moviuro: there is a difference between the track numbering (which always counts from 1 to the track position) and the track number as written (which sometimes are different, e.g. roman numerals). Picard will use the track position by default, but provides a variable for the number as written
reosarevok
Oh, ok
Then yeah, the release should just be amended, sorry :)

I'm having very severe performance issues to access the musicbrainz website though :(
atj: is it possible to point atisket at the test server for testing?
(say, if someone wants to try how it works before actually submitting real stuff)
atj
They can edit the form using developer tools!

I don't even think there is a setting in the app configuration to change the MB URL
kellnerd
Do you think this would be a useful feature to seed to test or a local server?
reosarevok
I was just thinking of it as a possible thing to tell someone like a company or artist who might want to check what they are doing twice before they do it
kellnerd
Ok, I will add this idea to the notes for my in-progress a-tisket alternative then, seems easy enough to add another env variable for it.

Just noticed that picard doesn't seem to like .mka audio files. are there any plans to support these?
