hmm. i guess the downside of specialized channels over on discord is that people here on irc won't be able to participate in any on topic musicbrainz discussions that happened to be in a specialized channel :/

Hellooooo, I'll ask here because I don't really know what to search for on the bugtracker... When I open an already tagged track/album in Picard and it finds a different cover art (via fanart.tv in my case), it shows the files as "excellent match" instead of the "no changes" green checkmark. So far so good because it *would* change something. However, if I then choose "Keep Original Cover Art" (and there are no other changes

to the tags), it doesn't go back to the green checkmark. It stays on the "Excellent match". Is that a known issue? It's been happening since.. well, forever, I just never bothered asking

Also while we're on the issue of Cover Arts: When a track already has embedded cover art and no Cover Art Provider is enabled in the settings, it nukes the embedded art on saving, but nowhere does it indicate that. It shows the art so one would assume it would leave it alone.

oh actually it seems the second one is just a display bug, it doesn't show in the UI but ffprobe still shows it and reloading the Album also shows it again.. my bad D:

this, and I also don't see how spreading it all out is good tbh

if you want to foster and grow the community then you need to provide platforms that people actually want to use

people who grew up in the smartphone era find irc to be archaic and overly complex

you can argue about the technical and moral issues with proprietary protocols until the cows come home but it isn't going to persuade most people to use what they consider to be a worse service

Yeah that's what I see used most in the Open Source space (if they're not on Discord)

yeah tbh i only use irc for either this channel or asking help for things

although i am in a number of communities that mirror across discord, irc, and sometimes others

matrix is unfortunately quite poorly implemented imo

it's getting better to be fair

sadly it all seems to be being funded by one organisation though

i've seen lots of really great new editors who have become much more involved because there is a community on Discord

Discord does too but the admin needs to enable it per channel

IRC isn't bad per se. maybe old, but it works. matrix (and discord) fill in some gaps with nice and shiny features IRC doesn't have. the option with bridges would allow slow migration, but doesn't force it.

but maybe I don't get the point. this channel is bridged to matrix and discord, so no need to use IRC at all

I didn't know about the Discord bridge until earlier and I don't have a Matrix account so I just popped on here because that's what I always did lol

i know of this my ? is how to get the right data info as the same to all platforms in order to be recognized from here.

everyone can add info to musicbrainz

you can do it yourself

hm, how do we handle a digital release from a streaming service, where the original date predates the streaming service provider?

for example a release from 2001 which i only see on apple music and 12" vinyl

(there was never a CD or anything)

since Apple Music says copyright <label> 2001

questionable dates are mostly the CD-release date on streaming platforms
