i wish there was a good ripper for linux that could do accuraterip

Cheezmo_: yeah, not really a concern for file name b/c it'll have a file ext. added to the end of it. more just an issue for album/artist names (for the folders)

Hmm. In MacOS, the folder becomes "R.E.M_" not sure when that happens.

Cheezmo_: i would've expected macos to behave more closely to how linux does for that but i guess their fs is pretty weird too

Whipper embeds mbids so it should be super easy to put them into picard to change the naming

Picard will not end files with a trailing dot by default, for obvious reasons

beets is similar to picard, but command line and keeps track of all the music in it. So can edit your naming format in your config then run a command to make everything in your library match that naming format.

Also has a plugin that lets you run a command to sync your library with any new musicbrainz edits

The one caveat with Whipper is it uses discids. So discid needs to be in musicbrainz. And if you're picky about your rip being matched to the exact release you'll need to check if the discid is correct or on multiple releases. But I like it overall

i still have it installed, so once i'm done tagging my current batch i'll give it a try

the weirdest problem i've had is that if you have the Dokan kernel driver installed, EAC hangs when you try and open a file dialog.

idk what's going on with the wikipedia page though, it says the encoder is bsd 3 clause but also not an open format

i've realized recently that cds are such a calm format to back up and store compared to something like blu-ray or even dvd

i need a better backup system

i just can't afford much storage. unfortunately my backup is just copying stuff

my main storage is a (sadly smr) 8TB barracuda i got for $99

5400RPM HDD, but that's more than enough for music and even hd video

it's an issue if you want to do RAID or ZFS but should be fine otherwise

recently another member here got me into picard so ive been using it and adding my own stuff lately. but basically every CD ive had to rip (so like two ever) was on musicbrainz and/or whatever EAC uses

ripped a very scratched CD and only one track was marked as inaccurate, and i couldn't even hear the difference. i wonder how EAC works

plexamp has been mny recent one, except just plex media player for dvd-a/sacd (plexamp can't do surround sound)

i use ncmpcpp (mpd) most of the time and mpv for stuff that hasn't been properly sorted into my mpd library yet
