If I find a mistyped track title on an album, does it get fixed on all necessary levels if I fix it on just one place (work/recording/release) or do I have to make several edits for it?

(found a wacky case... the physical album has one version of the track title in the back cover, another in the lyrics booklet, but pretty much every source on the web - including mb, spotify and tidal - use a third version which is definately wrong, probably a copypaste fail by someone who does not understand the language they were dealing with :)

kirvesAxe: if you edit a release's track list then you can check a box that copies the change to the recording. If there's multiple releases you'll have to edit the track lists individually. You'll also have to edit the work separately.

I guess I'll do the edits once I have gotten around taking decent photos of the album cover and back cover (the latter one specially as proof about the incorrect name)

is a simple "2 in 1" album(s) rerelease generally considered a compilation, or no?

I thought it was not, but poring over the style guides again, the only specific mention of those is they should be a separate group (duh). but not whether they're compilation secondary or no

I've seen albums reissued with extra tracks from an EP (it's 2 in 1 but kept the album's artwork and title)
If your edit receives three unanimous yes votes, it will generally be applied after 1 hour. If it is considered a destructive edit, however, the edit will be applied after 48 hours to allow adequate time for other editors to review.
and then back of album cover, looks like it is all lowercase (everything) as "curtain - cloth" (But still with spaces on either side of the dash)

You don't have to make everything perfect in one edit. My philosophy is to vote yes on improvements and if it can be further improved, someone else can do it. Don't overedit, if unsure, it's better to leave as is

2024-10-06 28038, 2024

I mean, people really don't need to say what they're doing in the edit note because you can see from the edit itself. The important thing for the edit note is to show why you're making the edit (with proof and links if at all possible).

LupinIII: i am never one to want something to scope creep themselves into oblivion, but to gain more activity/interest in MB, having an option to scan in discs by barcode to "Add to your collection" and/or even trying to group people together based on scrobble data might be a way to make it more social again. and I don't suggest "facebook" like social, but just like an irc/matrix/discord

You can use Picard to submit DiscID, no need to rerip
2024-10-06 28041, 2024
BobSwift[m]
If you're a purist, you may want to take some extra care because it is common for different releases (in a release group) to have the same barcode.
2024-10-06 28009, 2024
JollyRgrs
Lotheric: yeah, i'm already 600+ CDs deep into my process. I've only used picard for the discid a few times
2024-10-06 28029, 2024
BobSwift[m]
That is especially important if you're submitting a DiscID.
2024-10-06 28054, 2024
Lotheric
If you used a ripper with logs, you can submit DiscID just by pasting the TOC from the logs in a website
BobSwift[m]: yeah, i've noticed that. I try to take action when i notice, but also using abcde (it uses MB for lookup) so when that doesn't find it, I would normally turn to (plug your ears) the discogs option in mp3tag
2024-10-06 28045, 2024
JollyRgrs
i'm running ARM (Automatic ripping machine) but wasn't storing logs either (it does have discID in the logs, I just didn't save the logs)
2024-10-06 28050, 2024
BobSwift[m]
When I'm ripping a disc in my collection, the first thing I do is look up the release manually (making sure to compare catalog number, barcode, release country and album art [especially back cover]). If there isn't a match (or one that's just missing some info), I add a new release. I then do a "Lookup CD" in Picard to ensure that the release I found earlier (or added) is actually linked to that DiscID (and add the link if it's
2024-10-06 28050, 2024
BobSwift[m]
missing). I add any missing information to the release such as album art scans and relationships from the information available (booklet in my CD). I then rip the CD (usually using whipper), load my matching release into Picard, attach the ripped files and save. This way I know that it's tagged to the proper release, and contains all the proper relationship information.
2024-10-06 28047, 2024

I'm about 1500 CDs into that process now.
