how are the catalog numbers for digital media releases found/decided? i never see them on the source pages
      • houtworm has quit
      • afrocat_[m]
sometimes they show up on the cover art
      • there's certain sites that show catalog numbers, for electronic music specifically I use Beatport a lot, JunoDownload and Traxsource also show catalog numbers
      • i think https://jaxsta.com/ also shows catalog numbers? i don't really use it because you have a limited amount of searches per day or something like that

I found a label not in MB but I'm not sure what to add its type as because there isn't much info available, anyone have any idea? https://www.discogs.com/label/897312-602-Music?... They appear to only have released from one artist
      • Also finally got to the 100 edit mark
      • crism
zayd: Why are you adding the label? Their relationship to whatever other thing is the most interesting thing. Are they the label listed on a release? A publisher of a work on a release? A distributor? The function tells us what kind of thing they are, rather than starting with them directly.
      • Looking at Discogs, it looks like they are the straight-up label for those two Brik releases.
      • zayd
crism: Literally all that I see is that they're the label for the release
      • not sure about anything other than that
      • crism
The cover art on Discogs says, “All songs copyright 1999 602 Music.” They don’t use © or ℗ so I’m not sure what’s up…
      • It is customary for labels to hold ℗ for an album, but © is usually for a publisher.
      • (This is for _Stitches_, at least.)
      • Goodbye says, “© 1997 602 Music.” Makes me think it is the corporate or d/b/a identity of the band.
      • MetalKingdom says Brik recorded with the 602 Music label… Could be kind of a vanity label? But given the only documented usage is copyright, I would be inclined to say 602 is a publisher.
      • zayd
So I add it as a Publisher?
      • no idea how to get the LC numbers but I doubt this one has one
      • crism
Looks like there is a Spanish-language entity (group? label?) called 602 Music as well.
      • zayd
Considering their only artist was Brik and Brik is from Arizona, I'll set the area as such
      • crism
Yeah. Seems like they are closely affiliated with, and maybe are, the band.
      • zayd
Should I set Brik as the owner in that case?
      • crism
No idea. Not enough information here.

i recently submitted my first edit for a digital reissue of a release. are there guidelines for data that is referenced from file metadata?
      • afrocat_[m]
zayd: I would hold off on adding details like location and owner if you're not 100% sure. This could very well be a completely foreign label that just happened to release something by an american band
      • zayd
afrocat_[m]: I'm not adding the owner yet but I'm fairly confident in the location as the only band listed on Discogs was from Arizona. If you think it's best to leave it out, I'll do that though
      • crism
zayd, afrocat_[m]: IMO, the tight association with the band, plus the name (602 is an Arizona area code) justify listing Arizona as the area.
      • mebious: Not sure. What info are you thinking about?
      • zayd
crism: I'll add that then but leave the owner unset until I find anything else
      • mebious
crism: at the moment i only used the metadata to add a genre tag and for the track length as it seems a bit ambiguous
      • the file metadata and the information on official streaming pages correlate the track length as 40:31 but the official product page lists the track length as 40:32
      • picard also seems to process the track length from the digital file as 40:32
      • crism
Rounding variation is common in cases like that. The track is actually 40 minutes, 31.56 seconds, or something like that…
      • Within a second, I really wouldn’t stress over it.
      • mebious
i see. i did modify my previous edits to reflect that so the track length is now 40:32

i'm trying to add an album that has 2x CD media and 1x digital download medium using a download code in the liner notes. i tried to add the digital medium as "Digital Download" and the web UI tells me to use "Download Card" instead. i can't find "download card" on https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Release/Format - what do?
      • lazybookwyrm[m]
Looks like it's called "Music Card" on that page
      • ivy
so is 'download card' the right format for this medium?
