aerozol[m]: i see you came to the same conclusion as me, that untangling all of this would be quite a job :-) this isn't the only one with this problem

Hi all. I picked up a copy of Grateful Dead Europe '72, the 2022 50th anniversary rerelease. There are two fairly similar entries for it at https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/d716a4c9-... but it says "3x digital media" where what I've got is a 2-CD set. Is there some clean way to take all the data from one or the other of those but have it map properly to the two CDs that are
part of the set?

On the release group hit the "add release" button on the right side, then before you go to the tracklist page, visit the "release duplicates" page and you can select the 3x digital media releases and it'll populate the starting track list with that for you to edit
mason
lazybookwyrm[m]: Alright, thank you. Will give it a try.
ivy
i was going to suggest that, but i tried it and there seems to be no way to move tracks between mediums?
mason
hrm
lazybookwyrm[m]
Yeah, that's true
You can open the track parser and copy the lines there
* You can open the track parser and copy the tracks from there
And then paste those tracks into another track parser
mason
Alright. I'll probably give it a try tomorrow and see if I can get it updated to reflect this form.
lazybookwyrm[m]
But you will need to relink recording

It'd be nice if there were more beginner-friendly docs.
Ideal would have been for Picard to have a way to let me do a bunch of this.

love when Picard crashes halfway through saving a 120-track album
hmm... i just added this release: https://musicbrainz.org/release/31b0c07e-1a3b-4... - using 1988 as the release date based on discogs, but the matrix says "#950122LL BG2-8568 L392 MFG BY CINRAM" so i think this cannot be right - i suppose i should just remove the release date?

why can't i find this release on the artist page? https://musicbrainz.org/release/a54c2de9-c715-4... - did check the 'show bootlegs' option and it looks like it should be listed under Album+Compilation, but it's not
oh hang on, it is there, there are just two different Album+Compilation sections. that's confusing

a single that was shared by the artist themselves but never posted to streaming (i.e. posted themselves to group chats), that they then encouraged sharing of, but then ended up cancelling the release of - what would the release status for that be?
i don't know if that would be withdrawn or bootleg

I think cancelled, if they never actually “released” it properly? Or maybe promo...
I wouldn’t do bootleg. Maybe add a new bootleg release to the group if there is a very widespread fan repackaging with new artwork, something like that

hey all!! I want to contribute some cover art to musicbrainz in case anything in my music library doesn't already have cover art / high quality cover art. Is there any way to easily see which of the things imported into picard don't currently have cover art available on musicbrainz?

Welcome fazzi! Amazing! I don’t know about Picard, someone else might be able to help there. But I can highly suggest two userscripts that will help hugely: https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Guides/Userscripts...
Funkey Illustrated Records + Enhanced Cover Art Uploads
The other thing to keep in mind is that artwork should exactly match the release that you are uploading it to - for instance a digipak CD release should not have the square digital media cover, even if it’s nicer for tagging. For tagging you can use the “release group cover”. Sorry if that’s confusing, just ask if you have any questions!

welcome! hmm if you add all releases you tag with picard to a musicbrainz collection (right click, collections.. you'll need to log-in- how was that done again?)
then on the collection page you can check for releases missing the cover art icon
fazzi[m]
<aerozol[m]> "The other thing to keep in..." <- thanks for the explanation! Yeah I'm mostly tagging digital media releases so that is less of an issue for me :)
<RandomMushroom12> "welcome! hmm if you add all..." <- > <@_discord_400211649791000578:chatbrainz.org> welcome! hmm if you add all releases you tag with picard to a musicbrainz collection (right click, collections.. you'll need to log-in- how was that done again?)

sounds good, I'll try that now :)
aerozol[m]
Oh nice, if you’re tagging releases that are likely to have existing URL relationships to Apple Music/Spotify etc I cannot recommend “Enhanced Cover Art Uploads” script enough. Will grab the max resolution image from the source with a click. You will be breezing through!
oh yeah I see, its offering to install the userscript with violentmonkey
aerozol[m]
The main benefit is that you don’t have to browse your files to upload etc. The script is a click and it will load the image into the MB editor. But of course whatever way works for you. If you are dealing with a lot of releases you might want to shave off those seconds, otherwise maybe not!
*benefit of Enhanced Cover Art Uploads”
fazzi[m]
is this the userscript which does this or is it like this on default
fazzi[m] uploaded an image: (197KiB) < https://matrix.chatbrainz.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/wZKYvZMpgWHjPYECksGHGdue/clipboard.png >
aerozol[m]
That looks like the default, I think. Here’s what the userscript will do if there is a URL relationship
