That sentence was more complicated than I expected..

yeah, i was annoyed that the release group was showing the wrong date on the artist page, but apparently the right fix is to just adding the missing earlier release :-)

does a CD reissue of a vinyl LP contain the same recordings as the vinyl?
i feel like no, because there must have been at least basic remastering to transfer it to CD, right
is there a way (perhaps with Picard) to create the mediums of a release group based on local file tags? i'd like to add 25 bootleg albums and don't fancy typing that all out by hand
oh, literally just right click > Submit as release. that's surprisingly easy

hmm, i wonder if there's really much point adding stuff like this: https://musicbrainz.org/release/21387b06-e68a-4... - but it does exist, and perhaps someone will come along later and add more detail

It seems like a fair amount of detail for others to tag based on
I mean, more is always better but for a bootleg...

Good Lord, someone merged the stereo and mono recordings of The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. SUre wish there was and "unmerge".
Only 71 releases and a million compilations to sort out.

More worrying is that a merge on the Beatles can pass unseen...
That's the kind of entity for which I'd expect to have enough voters
Cheezmo_
Worse than that, I voted for it. No idea how I missed it, I surely would have noticed the differing disambiguation.
Had 4 yes votes
I have to think the stereo version disambiguation somehow got lost right before this merge.
reosarevok[m]
!recall ohno.
BrainzBot
I'm sorry, I don't remember "ohno.", are you sure I should know about it?
Well, that means there's three other people at least who you should force to help with cleanup! 😝

To me the biggest problem is that the original stereo mixes probably had tons of well researched relationships, etc. Easy to make new "original stereo mix" recordings but all that stuff!

Updating beta

I think I found the offending edit, it is not the one I voted on. The editor even explained how one release incorrectly referenced the mono recordings, then merged a release with stereo recordings into it. Ouch.
Yeah I guess that's not very obvious for a beginner-ish user
Beta done

just wanted to say I love the work MB does and thank everyone for helping making MB great. Thanks all!

Thanks to you too!

When two releases are merged do the recording merges show up as separate edits that can be voted on? I was probably traveling and missed them if so.
reosarevok[m]
No
(because they cannot be voted on, it's part of the release merge)

hi all
I want to propose to modify the capitalization of "Freestyle" to "(freestyle)"
where can i do that?
reosarevok[m]
To begin with, a forum thread, possibly
To see what others think
With examples and reasonings :)
fen0x[m]
ok, I will
thanks!

Hm, maybe an extra warning would be good if recordings being merged as part of the release merge have different disambiguations?
Cheezmo_
If I follow edits for a collection containing those recordings would that release merge have shown up for me to vote on?
reosarevok[m]
I am not 100% sure
In my experience edits show more often than expected, not less, but it's possible there are some cases where they don't and I'm not sure about recording collections specifically tbh

I think so? I see a lot of merges for my “my shelves” collection
Cheezmo_
I guess my question is if you have a release (1) in your watched collection that shares recordings with release (2) and release (2) is being merged with release (3). Will you see that release merge edit?
aerozol[m]
Hmm, I don’t think so
Cheezmo_
And if that release merge is going to merge a bunch of recordings, you would never know. Not sure what solutions there may be but just wanting to understand how this happened.
aerozol[m]
Certainly not the first time it’s happened :( That is a brutal merge though. bitmap I’m guessing there is no way to fix this server side?

if someone has already created new stereo recordings I can fix the MBID redirects, but that's about it
