Is there a way to use advanced search features in MusicBrainz so that one would be able to find artists with certain tags on their profile that are from a certain area?
      • Say for like, searching for metal musicians from India or whatnot

      • From Search (in the MB top bar) > Advanced search. Then check “Indexed search with advanced query syntax”. The doc for how to do complex searches with that is pretty good, even I understand it: https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Indexed_Search_Syntax
      • In this case the string is tag:metal AND country:in

aerozol coming in clutch like they always do. Thanks dude!

np! I was just messing with LB radio, because you can do it there too, but I can’t remember how to make a playlist prompt there be “AND” instead of “OR” (all I can manage is a playlist with songs that are from an Indian artist OR have the metal tag.
      • This actually just came up on a ticket as well… mayhem, is it possible to make the above work? I think I have asked before, I will add it to the docs this time if the answer is yes!

      • so there's a bandcamp release for this, with nothing else linked; I put its spotify link into harmony and got tons to add
      • how do i check whether it was on all platforms at the same time as the bandcamp release? if they released at different periods, do they get seperate releases?
      • elomatreb[m]
phoenix_05 (@_discord_502736866169061386:chatbrainz.org) if a digital release is the same across multiple platforms (at least as far as we can tell, based on the metadata we get) they don't get separate releases, even if the release date differs
      • one reason for this is that availability on platforms is super quick to change, and the other is that as you rightly note we have no real way of telling when a release was added to a platform generally
      • in this case you have two tracks on the Bandcamp version and only a single track on the Spotify version though, so this would mean separate releases
      • phoenix_05[m]
oh, lol, how'd I miss the most discerning feature
      • thanks!
      • I got this linked on one edit as an edit note by chaban - <https://community.metabrainz.org/t/harmony-musi...; - if i read it right, I just need to mind the order in which I do stuff from Harmony, yeah?

        expected lol
      • btw, is there any standalone version of that feature in Harmony where it links other external links? I need to add some to existing releases
      • what about the availability in regions though? and what if the crediting is different on streaming sites like Spotfiy/AM/Tidal compared to Bandcamp?
      • * what about a difference in the availability

phoenix_05 (@_discord_502736866169061386:chatbrainz.org) I believe there is a fix (either on the way or already here, I forget) for the ISRC issue, I believe it was mentioned in the Harmony thread
      • as for adding recording links to existing releases, you can lookup MusicBrainz releases in Harmony. I know someone also made up a userscript to add a link on MusicBrainz too, but I don't remember where that is offhand...
      • (once you look up the release, there should be a link near the top to the post-import page, I forget what it's called at the moment)

      • phoenix_05 (@_discord_502736866169061386:chatbrainz.org) afaik availability is not grounds for separate releases, as long as the sources share all other details ie. barcode, tracklist, and cover art.
      • If you mean crediting as in different spelling of the same artist names, it shouldn't matter either. Stores like apple music have their own style guide that's independent of what's submitted to them https://help.apple.com/itc/musicstyleguide/en.l... and spotify especially tends to mess with titles and artist credits, how they haven't figured out how to credit featured artists as featured artists instead of just listing
      • them with a comma is beyond me lol
