If it helps to remember - [show name] [date/episode number] [everything else] is important because then the files sort in order of episode number or release date, which lots of people need for podcasts

when adding releases with harmony, after you apply the edit, it redirects you from https://harmony.pulsewidth.org.uk/release? to https://harmony.pulsewidth.org.uk/release/actions? where you can add details to your song. is it possible to get to that latter url without editing the former url or without doing the import all over again?

You can get there by looking up the MB release URL and clicking the release actions link there.

Or you can use a bookmarklet or userscript which constructs the release/actions?release_mbid=... URL for you.

And I plan to have a direct release MBID or URL lookup on the release actions page in the future.

ok so I have some extra questions now

is there any way to add those links automatically?

I suppose I could add a new release and then merge it, but it seems impractical

That Bandcamp release doesn’t have a barcode, so Harmony shouldn’t be matching it to Spotify etc anyway

I guess it would be nice to be able to seed missing Spotify URL’s etc to the release if there’s a barcode, but the post-seed screen doesn’t do that at all, so it would be a bit of a change I imagine

All that is done in the initial seed by Harmony, so I don’t think it expects you to do it later

Please don't, it's better o properly add the Spotify link to the MB release by hand, then release actions will automatically use it.

Just do a regular lookup like elkiensad and add all the missing links which Harmony finds to the existing release (if barcode and the rest matches).

That's the only missing step which can't be automated currently.

Once I get that to work, editing an existing release will be exactly the same as importing a new release, including the final redirect to the release actions.

But for now this gap of adding more external links has to be bridged manually.

Yeah, I am also post-poning any updates to existing releases because it will be much easier once that is implemented. For me personally the question is always: Will it be faster to implement automation for something or is it worth doing it by hand 😄

BlastboomStrice[: There should be no need to do that, every URL in Harmony gets mapped to an ID and back to a canonical URL. So if any tracking parameters slip through I consider this a bug.

Yes, extracting the ID from the URL is the first thing which happens. With most APIs you can only lookup by ID anyway.

aerozol[m]: yeah, Im searching for artists and I add the albums from spotify one by one (1. sometimes there might be already a few release groups on mb of that artist and 2. by albums I mean spotify albums, which could be translated to release groups in mb I think)

you can just check boxes in harmony for release importing

Yep! But because you import via Harmony it will of course add the other provider links, it just checks it against the spotify UPC

I press the view artist to add releases?

Paste in a Spotify artist URL in the top. And then press the Harmony link next to a release to import it. When you next refresh Harmony it should show that album as green/added
