if a digital release is on streaming everywhere except china, are we allowed to set the release country to XW, or is this (still) wrong? i remember there was some discussion about changing this rule

i recall doing XW in the past for releases that are missing one country before (although i don't recall which specific ones...)
i also recall some discussion as well, but i don't remember where, forum maybe?

@ivy: This is a bit of a matter of judgement, there is no clear rule. For countries like China that heavily control access to their markets or have censorship that entirely prevents certain releases from appearing, XW is reasonably easy to justify though
@srxl: yeah we had a super long and annoying thread in the forums
but without reaching any direct result :/

elomatreb: but I've seen some people saying that sometimes importers might be wrong regarding availability in China

is there no way to link directly to an archive.org image for the cover art?
i have to download it from there, upload it to MBDB, then that gets transferred to archive.org?

asking for future reference - is it considered legal to contribute additional metadata using scraper-ish tools? for example, I was thinking that I could write something that:... (full message at <https://matrix.chatbrainz.org/_matrix/media/v3/...>)
of course I'd do due diligence regarding rate limiting so I don't spam either website's API, the only question is about large-scale tool-assisted metadata completion
elomatreb[m]
@riedler: We don't want fully-automated imports, but otherwise you are free to do that sort import
riedler[m]
what exactly do you consider fully automated?
elomatreb[m]
processes that enter edits without a human looking over it
historically we had some relatively bad experiences with software that did this sort of thing, specifically for importing/matching releases from Discogs (IIRC)
people are still cleaning up after that
riedler[m]
ah ok :neofox_thumbsup: so anything I automate needs to have my eyes look over the data before it gets entered, yes?
thanks for the clarification ^^ I will share my work once I have anything of note
elomatreb[m]
not necessarily your eyes, but yeah that's what I meant
riedler[m]
er, yes. if someone else uses it, it's gonna be their eyes ofc :akko_giggle:
kellnerd[m]
<riedler[m]> "asking for future reference - is..." <- You can already do that with [Harmony's](https://harmony.pulsewidth.org.uk/) Release Actions, not only for Spotify but for all supported sources.
riedler[m]
kellnerd[m]: oh, will take a look later. thanks for the pointer ^^
