Hiya. Adding a DJ mix to MB, and I want to link each recording used in the mix. Should I do that in "Relationships", and add a separate relationship with type "DJ-mix" for each song used in the mix?
As in, the DJ mix uses "Liquid Soul", "Mote Carlo", "Boombox" from the game R:Racing Evolution, so I just add each of those songs one by one, I assume.

@ridge: Yes, and once you have added the individual recording relationships you can set a specific order on them to indicate in which order they appear in the track

how should I handle artists that have renamed, but all their older tracks are listed on bandcamp as released by their current name (as in, not overriding the name)
concrete case here is https://bxnshy.bandcamp.com/music which went from bxnshy to Ruby May Valentine then back to bxnshy, and there's 2 artists in musicbrainz based on whatever the name was when she released an album, as far as i can see
if they're all released under the same name nowadays should I just merge the artists and rename the artist to bxnshy
elomatreb[m]
@522 depends on whether the artist intended the name change on the existing releases, or whether it's just an artifact of how the platform works. For example on Spotify, you can't have multiple names, so if an artist changes their name it necessarily updates all existing releases, even though the artist would have maybe preferred to keep the old name for the old releases
this is often hard to tell just from storefront pages, so you sometimes have to resort to just asking the artist what they intended
M522[m]
bandcamp *does* allow you to change what older releases are credited to, as far as i know
but yeah i can email and ask
elomatreb[m]
Bandcamp allows that, but afaik if you never entered a custom credit for an old release, it will get updated along with the page name if you change it
if you're sending an email you can also ask whether they consider the two names separate projects, which would be the decider for whether we should have two artist pages for them on MB
if they're just alternate names for the same project, you can merge the artists and use aliases + artist credits to set the changed name on the releases in questions
