I have a CD for which the track lengths don't match what's in MB. The ISRCs match, the catalog #s match, and I can't find any evidence of a second CD release existing. Suggestions?
I found the 'Set track lengths' button and submitted an edit for review.
along with a link to my CD rip log as evidence
Is there a preferred way to share evidence like a sleeve scan or rip log? I'm using imgur and pastebin.

@UltraFuzzy: you can upload scans to the Cover Art tab on the release
it doesn't allow uploading ripping logs, but the disc ID already encodes accurate track times, so there isn't much evidence needed beyond that
(the disc ID is a compressed form of the table of contents of the actual CD)
UltraFuzzy
So a 'set track lengths' edit was probably the wrong thing to do? I see that the previous submission had a CD TOC too so this couldn't be a case of human error.
elomatreb[m]
is this you? it's probably fine, since it's very possible for
then looking at the edit history of that release, the track times were not originally set from the disc ID
the disc ID was added half an hour after the medium with the track times, so the editor manually typed those times in, possibly based on file durations or the back cover or something
UltraFuzzy
should I re-submit that edit?
Also, how do I look at the edit history to figure stuff like this out?
elomatreb[m]
the edit history is another tiny link in the sidebar
and then it's just reverse chronological
UltraFuzzy
Ah, I see the history link
elomatreb[m]
if you want, feel free to resubmit that edit
it's also possible to have multiple disc IDs attached to the same release, if the track times differ we don't necessarily consider that a separate release
UltraFuzzy
Good to know. I had thought Disc ID and release was 1-to-1. How would I instead add a disc ID?
nm, found the docs for that

I think sometimes ripper or other disc reader softwares might sometimes calculate a TOS differently
especially if there's any pregap present
but moreso than that I think represses can sometimes result in a subtly different TOC; in theory it shouldn't but I think in practice it's been known to happen
but that's kind of just my anecdotal memory talking lol
feels like each passing year, compact disc trivia becomes more and more obscure and forgotten lol

I have a CD in hand (https://www.amazon.com/Boys-Girls-Mandy-Ray/dp/...) . The artist is stated as "Mandy Ray" on the cover and spine. Amazon lists it under "Mandy Smith". In MB I can't find "Mandy Ray" as artist, but indeed there is "Mandy Smith" :
and there is a single listed "Boys and Girl", that has the same tracks as my copy. barcode differs. So the question: Should I create a new release in the existing "Boys and Girls" group
Volkor joined the channel
and then use "Mandy Ray" in the "artist" field with "credited as" ?
(of course including DiscId and cover art scans :) )

Hi, there's a pretty clear 'fake release' in the DB (someone used someone else's name when submitting a release. it is NOT an actual release from them). I guess the stance would be to remove the 'fake name' from the release/group/tracks/recordings?... (full message at <https://matrix.chatbrainz.org/_matrix/media/v3/...>)
* a release to streaming services. it
This is obviously not ShibayanRecords (plus the P tag is not Shibayan)
