has there been any thought, discussion, or consensus on specifying track lengths on vinyl media where it's not listed on the packaging? IIRC discogs's policy is you don't enter it, maybe until or unless you've played and timed them. Which seems logical to me. Cuz I've encountered one scenario with an album where I got into the official web release of an album, and then finally decided to rip the LP version, and found out some of
      • the tracks had been shortened to fit vinyl 😭
      • So it seems better to me not to just assume the vinyl lengths are the same as other versions.
      • (actually I suppose this should extend to any analog medium, haha)

I agree with this. If you don't have track lengths from either a rip or the sleeve, don't assume they're the same as another release.

UltraFuzzy (IRC) exactly for that. Not an iTunes user here so can not tell about that. But for me it is enough to keep the basic tags and the embedded cover art. I use the files to hear music from usb in my car.
      • UltraFuzzy
Can someone ELI5 the meaning of the gold disc with the red asterisk status icon? I don't understand what this part of the description in the docs means: "and that the information for the release has been modified"
      • reosarevok[m]
I guess the point is that there is some changes to the tags to save? :)
      • UltraFuzzy
ok, the confusion was that it was giving me the asterisk because I had additional tags but I also had 'Clear existing tags' turned off so it wasn't showing me those additional tags
      • wait no, that wasn't it, every time I reload files back into Picard it still gives me the asterisk, is that just how it is when you add files?
      • reosarevok[m]
I guess if there's some tags that are not getting saved they might always show as different? Bob Swift or zas would know
      • UltraFuzzy
So it is possible to load in files and get a clean golden disc without pressing save?

      • rinsuki[m]
I think you can just create new release group and move release to new one
      • naxay07[m]
[UltraFuzzy (IRC)](https://matrix.to/#/@irc_UltraFuzzy:chatbrainz.org) Golden disk means you have all the tracks in that release. It's possible to load files without any tags and get a golden disc (e.g. acoustid matching)
      • It's still possible to get an asterisk (unsaved changes) even for tracks you just saved. I don't really know why that happens, windows Explorer might be doing something that breaks 1:1 match confidence of picard or it's just server side has been changed so there really are new changes

Hello, I wanted to ask if there's a place to report incorrect entries on MusicBrainz? I wasn't able to find one. As it's a collaborative platform, I imagine the correct option would be to edit it myself, but I'm not too familiar with the platform or best practices so I wanted to ask about reporting content first.
      • Not sure if I'll be available when someone is around to respond, but this is the content in question: https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/1fc36e27-...
      • Found it on Lady Gaga's artist page, and this clearly is not a Lady Gaga release. Kind regards.

You can adjust the data quality level, which takes all of a few seconds
      • However, not many people use this function
      • Better would be to either report it here on the community forum, and a seasoned editor can review
      • If nobody reaches it before me, I can look at this and communicate with the original editor to ensure they double check their data when using seeders and userscripts
      • reosarevok[m]
Heh. I mean, it is credited to a "Lady Gaga"
      • Just not the Lady Gaga

hi, sorry, trying to use musicbrainz to move from id3v2.4 to 2.3. I have changed the settings to ones in the image, and have selected them all and saved them. But when i press on the info of these songs it still said 2.4. what am i doing wrong?

UltraFuzzy: Unless your input tracks are fully-tagged, Picard is going to make changes to them, so there will be an asterisk.
      • Kurisu[m]: Go ahead and make an edit. In this case, it looks like create a new Lady Gaga, with a disambiguation note. As a beginner, the edits will be subject to vote before they take effect.

crism I'm talking about files I tagged and saved, then removed, and then loaded back in. I still get an asterisk.
      • crism
UltraFuzzy: you could select one track and look at the before-and-after metadata to see what’s changing. Maybe there’s a timestamp, or something updated on MBz?

Results: The output of `metaflac --show-all-tags` did not change (except for the order), but the hash of the file did change. 🤔
      • Just to be clear about what's going on, when I save in Picard, I do get a clean gold CD. But if I remove those files and reload them then I get the asterisk again.

UltraFuzzy (IRC): I vaguely recall there being something with respect to cover art settings that could cause this because Picard was seeing different cover art available. Try disabling all cover art providers and see if the problem continues. Then again, I could be totally mis-remembering. ;-)
      • UltraFuzzy
        Oh wow. That was it.
      • Damn, good recall.
