Can anybody help me with how to input a double EP release? It consists of two CDs, in a single gatefold, with a single catalog number on the packaging and both discs. Both EPs already exist in MusicBrainz as separate release groups.

https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Release_Group says "Every release belongs to one, and only one, release group". So I guess I just put this down as two releases, one in each of the existing release groups?

Putting this down as two releases doesn't seem quite right, because 1) it's not; they're physically attached and not sold separately and 2) single catalog number. But putting this down as a two-disc album with no connection to the existing release groups doesn't seem right either. I don't think it's *that* unusual to release a bundle of two release, so I assume there's a precedent for what to do...

@BCMM yes, it should be a separate release group with a two disc release, because that's what it is. You can link the release groups of the separate discs to this combined one with the includes relationship

ah thanks, the existence of "includes" is very much the missing piece in my understanding there

also, it ought to have occurred to me that it's just the same situation as retrospective box sets. didn't think of that at first because, as far as i'm aware, this is the only physical release of both EPs
