Looks good houtens (IRC) ! I’ve removed the CD tracks from the digital media release as well :)
I think it was fine to copy over the AcoustID, and to use them for the track lengths

has it ever been discussed whether tracks can be linked to multiple recordings?
RandomMushroom12 joined the channel
RandomMushroom12
they can't, but why do you want that?
zoedivision[m]
CD tracks containing more than one discrete recording
Like a hidden track
I've even seen one or two discs with an obvs mastering error where what should have been two separate tracks got sequenced into one long track
RandomMushroom12
i see, a workaround would be to create a new recording and link that to the original two recordings ("compilation of")

Harmony's recording links was a mistake lol

Too much work for too little benefit IMO, but I may be convinced otherwise once there are tools actually making use of that data.

Hopefully one day it will help with LB matching...
Currently most of the stuff I add is not picking up on LB automatically because Spotify sends with artist credits in Latin script or tracks in Latin script VS what is in the database.

Or brainzplayer matching.
Personally I add them because I like having the full metadata present, and it could be useful for like... 2 people?
Joking aside, it's useful for linktree type stuff, since I'm making something like that as a booster shot for my web dev knowledge

i was pretty excited about recording URLs when the feature got introduced to Harmony but tbh I don't really add them anymore
If I could import those URLs directly to my files with picard then I might be convinced though...
rustynova[m]
To me it's like ISRCs. I don't need them, but it exists so I add. Even more that YoMo's open all scripts makes it easy
Piper[m]
there's a lot of data in MusicBrainz that I personally don't use, but I'll fill out every field I can just because someone might benefit from it somehow
now or in the future
rustynova[m]
I definitely could see links used as a way to find dupe releases
(And totally not already on my to-do list of things to add to Alistral)
zoedivision[m]
Would it be appropriate to merge releases that are essentially identical, just with different release events/labels?
Like if even the barcodes are still the same between regions
zer0bitz- joined the channel
Piper[m]
IMO the distinction is whether the packaging for each label is different - if the packaging is the same (it's the same SKU) then it's the same release
I don't know how that applies to digital media though
zoedivision[m]
I have physical media in mind tbh
dvirtz[m]
Would it help if there was a Latin alias?
Maybe Harmony could add that
Piper[m]
does LB search aliases?
anomie_[m]
The Wikidata import script is much more useful than I assumed at first
YoMo12[m]
dvirtz (@_discord_491523503388884993:chatbrainz.org) and @Piper currently LB does not search for alias or alternate track titles.

<zoedivision[m]> "Would it be appropriate to merge..." <- I'm guessing that if the label was different, the coverart would also be different, thus triggering a separate release.
zoedivision[m]
I'm presuming we mean not so much the cover art per se, as print on the spine, back, disc, etc wherever the label info shows
my inner Occam would much prefer keeping these kinds of instances as one item, but yknow, c'est la vie
would be appropriate to list all three of them as labels?

It's just one of those days
kellnerd[m]
Link please?
anomie_[m]
There were some discrepancies when I disambiguated artists manually instead of referencing the other release these recordings came from, so I would appreciate a second pair of eyes
zoe.division: hard no for merging releases with different labels. Particularly physical media? The packaging has to be different, e.g. a different label logo?
Any difference in artwork, including disc, back, etc, is a new physical release
Piper[m]
hell, there's an argument for a pre-autographed copy being a separate release
aerozol[m]
Hmm interesting, I guess so! If it was sold as a separate item and has collectors value. I don’t know if I would bother though :D
Piper[m]
I'd only bother if I were already adding multiple different releases for a release group (e.g. different vinyl colors or something) and saw an autographed copy as a separate SKU on a record store website or something
