I think "uploaded to YouTube" counts as a release, I'd say.

And at the same time, I'm doubting whether every single small YouTuber should have a recording every time they cover a certain work...

Because that would quickly bloat things up to hundreds of covers, hell maybe even thousands

lemuria: We don’t have any notability criteria, but to me, the question is always, “Who cares?” Will someone want to see a complete list of recordings by this artist? Or a complete list of recordings of a particular work? Will someone want to tag a ripped version of it? So no, not every single person singing any song in any YouTube video, but any video you (or anyone else) thinks is worth doing the work to put into MBz, sure!

I go by that criterion generally as well. Do I count this event I attended where music was played as an Event? I dunno, do I care enough about it to put it in my Attended collection?

Is MusicBrainz blocking users with VPNs now? Can't access the website today when using NordVPN. Switching servers doesn't help.

I was thinking perhaps it was a temporary VPN block due to DDOS or something because I was noticing last night the website was struggling and timing out, then today I couldn't access it via VPN.

Hmm maybe, one of the server admins will be able to have a look. The reason I mentioned the AI crawlers is we just recently got hit with a wave (probably the slowdown you noticed), and I assume a lot of IPs got blocked as a result. But I’m just guessing :)

Not quite sure how to split https://musicbrainz.org/release/300d790f-99f6-4.... It's listed as a US release, but there's no evidence there was ever a US release with that cat no. Worse, the cover art is indeed for a known US release with a different cat no.

Speaking of YouTube recordings (like music videos and covers) what if the title credits as artist & co.

I'm wondering how those should be handled

is there a sort of template or statement that can be used to explain what musicbrainz is when i tell artists that i added them to musicbrainz?

this is sorta what i've written:

It's open for anyone to add data, so I've been doing that.
