to be honest this isn't the AI's at fault, its the humans - AI's are simply following an instruction, so somewhere there is a human going "oi go and scrape the living heck out of that"

anyone here fluent in CUE editing tools?
2025-07-08 18905, 2025
zoedivision[m]
I have such a headache on my hands. I'm trying to rip+archive a CD image, where the disc was *supposed* to be an enhanced disc, but the data session was clearly botched, and instead my disc contains just under 16 minutes of pure noise, in the track 00 pregap area. The rest of the CD plays as normal....
2025-07-08 18905, 2025
zoedivision[m]
I've already ripped the disc with EAC, created the cue sheet and FLAC etc... rather than archive about 140MB of erroneous noise data, I'd like to create a new image that just omits the pregap entirely and starts at the regular track 01. I've been using my usual tools, i.e. EAC, Audacity, fb2k, but nothing is getting the job done quite right. And then I have CUETools, but I'm *very* unfamiliar with all its ins-and-outs...
2025-07-08 18927, 2025
zoedivision[m]
it *probably* could do what I need; I just don't know *how*, haha....
2025-07-08 18927, 2025
zoedivision[m]
And in case you're wondering, I bet the culprit is BMG Direct; I own another disc with this exact same issue and it's also a BMG pressing.

zoedivision[m]: I'd assume your "archive" is a full-image rip? By default EAC doesn't rip stuff from the track 1 pregap when saving to separate files.
2025-07-08 18950, 2025
kepstin
Honestly I wouldn't bother worrying about it for just 140MB.
the only thing that matters for an "archive" in my opinion is whether enough info is available to correctly split it into tracks later - and there is. Tools for splitting cue + single wav will generally either omit the track 1 pregap or allow saving it to a separate file.
2025-07-08 18901, 2025
zoedivision[m]
The primary issue I'm running into here is tweaking the cue itself, trying to preserve the other small pregap indices present on the disc, but not the junk data one.
2025-07-08 18946, 2025
kepstin
again? why? if this is an archive, then just keep the data. it'll sit there, inert, not causing any problems :)
2025-07-08 18950, 2025
kepstin
but I think in general what you'd want to do is a range-based rip from track 1 index 1 to the end of the disk (some cue splitters might be able to pull that range out from the existing file to a new file), then edit the cue sheet to remove track 1 index 00, adjust track 1 index 01 to 00:00:00, then subtract the original track 1 index 01 value from all of the remaining values.
2025-07-08 18952, 2025
kepstin
(note that subtracking values isn't trivial, since it's minutes, then seconds, then _frames_. (There are 75 frames in one second of audio)
2025-07-08 18918, 2025
leftmostcat[m]
(Tangentially, I have so many BMG Direct CDs and editing them is a pain. :P)
2025-07-08 18943, 2025

Yeah, that's the problem, I need something that can do the math for me of subtracting the data

honestly might be easiest to convert to "file per track" format omitting the track 1 pregap (or deleting it afterwards)

it's just as good of an archive as the single file, just a little messier since it's more files

in eac, you'd want the file per track with gaps appended to previous track mode specifically.
