most dev conversation happens over in [MetaBrainz](https://matrix.to/#/%23metabrainz:chatbrainz.org) (#development in the discord server) so you might have better luck getting an answer directly from a dev there. that said, your hypothesis sounds plausible
<reosarevok[m]> "Huh, that seems interesting..." <- reosarevok: it is. I liked this cover, but haven't heard it for years. The download is long since gone, but I still should have the MP3 somewhere. Will look it up

Hi! A have a CD release of https://gerald-omniscient.bandcamp.com/album/musi… in hand, (bought directly from the band on a concert). The coverart states the same 5 tracks as the digital release on bandcamp. But: The CD only has 4 tracks. When comparing the durations, and after listening it seems that track 3 on the CD (length 10:06) actually contains two songs (3 and 4). How

should I enter that into musicbrainz, so it fits the DiscId that I of course also want to transmit? :)
(I aöready cleaned up the existing release, in case you are looking at it now :) )

@Vacuity: It's always annoying when artists do this, but the way to enter it into MB is to follow the track structure of the actual CD and enter the track titles separated with a slash. Additionally you can then describe this inconsistency in the annotation of the release

you can reuse the recordings from the digital release, except for the "shared" track where you will have to create a new one (assuming all the other tracks sound the same)

and ideally upload scans of the relevant booklet/cover inserts from the CD so that other editors can verify what you're saying :)

eletrotupi: great, thanks for the fast reply. I also thought that the slash separation would likely be the way to go, thanks for confirming my gut feeling

yes, I always upload scans for the releases I edit :)

if you want to be extra fancy you can also create Works for the individual tracks, and then assign two works to the recording belonging to the shared track on the CD

I wouldn't even blame the band for this. Another small indie band had a release where the CD mastering company _split_ one song into two, because there was a silence in it...
<crism> "I have a feeling https://beta...." <- I think its fine since Bandcamp has the same title BUT why not just split them

@crism why do you feel that edit could be controversial?

Seems pretty clear to me

Ah you mean because of the title on streaming services? In general the cover art is a much more authoritative source than those

Thanks elomatreb (@_discord_681477816029675521:chatbrainz.org) - do you know if Genre information is available for download, even if under a different license?

Yes it is, it’s in one of the other files. The first page I linked explains which data is in which file, with genres being a specific form of „tag“

Hmm. I checked out the others but didn’t see it. I may have just missed it. I’ll look again - thanks!
