<elomatreb[m]> "yeah, the data quality on..." <- for this point, i'm realy curious : spotify & deezer only allow submission by digital distribution platform, that do the job for get ISRC, copyrights stuff, and other directly from the labels or artists

      • elomatreb[m]
yeah, but the level of care the distribution platform people put into this varies

      • elomatreb[m]
e.g. it happens fairly often that distribution platforms just flat-out assign new ISRCs for all recordings on a release they push out, even though some of them may already have been assigned an ISRC previously

sadly, labels and artists are not so assiduous for put thes infos on MB -_-

(this is why Musicbrainz recordings can be linked to more than one ISRC)

that and beyond metadata - if something is linked to spotify already then automatically adding cover art might be useful?
      • 2025-12-21 35547, 2025

      • i522
(even if that can be done without the dump, but spotify might ratelimit automated accesses like that, unsure)
      • 2025-12-21 35513, 2025

      • elomatreb[m]
they have a semi-public API (you can get a token for free with an account) which you could already do this with, yeah
      • 2025-12-21 35529, 2025

      • elomatreb[m]
they have a fairly aggressive rate limiting

oh i was thinking "just scrape the web ui"

since that's what humans do when adding cover art manually from spotify
      • 2025-12-21 35517, 2025

      • elomatreb[m]
fwiw the cover art specifically from Spotify is fairly bad
      • 2025-12-21 35535, 2025

      • elomatreb[m]
they only have 640x640 or something around that

I think most releases in MB that already have a Spotify link will also have a Deezer and/or apple music link, since the importer tools that have been in use for many years at this point support those three platforms

<elomatreb[m]> "e.g. it happens fairly often..." <- Hum... difficult to filter this... Anna-archive maked stats about duplicate track by ISRC, i wonder what can be the data for filter multiple ISRC by track... oO

and Deezer and in particlar AM have much higher quality cover art

indeed, if (one day) we try to make a bot for mass-import, we will try (and retry) it on a local MB instance !

elomatreb: I think it's relatively recent, but the maximgurl userscript can grab bigger art from spotify now! (this is included in Harmony iirc)

one thing I worry might happen is that Spotify takes this as a reason to kill their API :/

However it's another case where I'm not sure annas-archive helps. If we know the Spotify link in MB then we have the barcode, and we should search Apple for the release and add the cover from there (which is probably better/bigger).

^ If we were to automate anything.

By the way I'm not saying annas-archive is pointless or not of value, especially as a historical reference it will be invaluable, just that I'm not sure it exposes anything new for MB editors (calculating fingerprints could be the exception)
