The release has to be added as a single track for the disc id to match.
but the individual songs can be added as separate recordings for tagging, and the can be linked to the main cd track using the compilation relationship
JuniorJPDJ
it makes sense!
how should I name this single track? The same as release? All titles of songs concatenated with " / "? (seems like bad idea, it would be very long string)
and the best is that this recording wont be alone as album is available as mp3 download! :D
kepstin
the standard style guide recommendation would be to use track titles separated by /
which, well, i guess would be pretty long :/
JuniorJPDJ
that's what I know ;/
and I think it's not the best idea in this case
but curious what other people think about it

outsidecontext: probably a browser issue, CatQuest uses an old version of Firefox which is not compatible with some modern JS features
CatQuest
yes, sadly
it's also an issue with my computer though. because the most modern browser (chrome) also does no work

I have an album that credit a guitarist as the “lead guitar” and another one as the “rhythm guitar”. Is there an agreed upon way to enter that info into the database?
CatQuest
we have the ability to use both instrument credits and some attributes
i don't remember right now if we have "lead" on instruments. if not that might be usefull actually and sometihng i'd discuss with reosarevok once he's back from whence went
but for now you ca add it as (electric) guitar and set a ""as" credit with whatever there is
So using credits as explained by CatQuest seems ot be the most appropriate way for now.

Hi everyone, I get this error when trying to upload a cover art:
⚠ Error requesting signature
Cover art can’t be uploaded to this release because we don’t own the associated item at the Internet Archive. Please contact us at https://metabrainz.org/contact so we can resolve this.
but I'm guessing this metadata request fails and triggers that message somehow
vds91
Just retried, it worked...
Always retry three times before reporting an issue...
bitmap
hehe
well, there's still an issue on our side, so thanks for reporting that :)
Sylvhem
Thanks CatQuest, thanks yvanzo!

bitmap : It is back, with an error message that might help you fixed the wrong exception : read timeout at /home/musicbrainz/carton-local/lib/perl5/Net/HTTP/Methods.pm line 268.
bitmap
interesting, thanks
did it show the "we don't own the associated item" error in that case?
bitmap: I guess IA's MDAPI may be returning empty metadata
possibly the PUT times out because of IA overload, user retries, bucket already exists but isn't registered in the metadata service so it gives empty metadata
vds92: Does that sound like a plausible scenario?
bitmap
yeah, I did see that it can give a completely empty response in some cases
although I'm not sure why it returns the ownership message in that case, it should be a json decode error
ROpdebee
IIRC it returns an empty dict, not a completely empty response
I'm not sure how perl handles accessing undefined fields though
bitmap
yes, you're right
perl would allow accessing the non-existent fields but return undef, so that would trigger the error
`!defined $uploader || $uploader ne 'caa@musicbrainz.org'` should probably be `defined $uploader && $uploader ne 'caa@musicbrainz.org'` but we'll need to retry or return a different error if it's undefined
not sure how long it'd take to appear in the metadata api though
ROpdebee
couple of minutes at most, in my experience
I'd say an ideal solution would be to retry on timeouts or empty metadata
but these changes have been implemented for a while already, and it's the first time this is causing issues with the 30s timeouts as far as i'm aware
so perhaps the easiest fix would be to return a generic error "Temporary error, please wait a minute and try again"
not the most elegant fix, but if IAS3 is flaky, uploading cover art would be a pain either way
bitmap
yea that makes the most sense to me too

[21:19:15] <ROpdebee> vds92: Does that sound like a plausible scenario?
I am not sure I understand the scenario, but repeating the request (by clicking the button again without reloading) triggered the same error
Hum you mean the first time it failed maybe the error was different ? I don't remember clearly.
although i'm not sure under which conditions uploader can be undefined when the metadata isn't empty (other than darked items, but those are handled earlier), so i'm not sure whether it would really be a temporary issue
bitmap
I'm not sure either, I might return the generic error message in that case and log it to sentry

changed that, hopefully it never occurs in practice
