i had an old idea for that actualy. a new work-work relationship: "contains compositional elements from"
i had in mind more for popular music than classical, but
reosarevok
Yeah - right now all we have is "based on"
CatQuest
popular music borrow compositional bits from classical
tink only of the many many many that have bits of bethovens 5th for exampke
reosarevok
Classical does that from classical very often too :)
CatQuest
hah
actually that'd be interesting information
what do you think of my idea reo?
reosarevok
For stuff like "variations on piece X" I've always used "based on", but for stuff like "this contains a brief quotation of Beethoven's Emperor piano concerto" we have nothing rn
CatQuest
yea!
reosarevok
There's probably a ticket for something like this already, and it probably makes sense
We just need to word it clearly so that people won't use it stupidly, but I'm not against the idea
CatQuest
I had never made a ticket for "contains compositional elements" (ir "contaisn a brief quotation") becasue my idea was back in the dakr ages of style
hench why "compositional elements". I like the "brief quote too"
i think these two songs would use the same relationship, if it existed

what is the difference between a "quotation" and an "interpolation"?
CatQuest

concept even

Oh yeah, that would do the trick! I guess I assumed this kind of thing would already be used as it seems like something that would be used throughout parts of symphonies etc. But I guess it's probably so 'obvious' that symphony parts would include similar motifs that it's redundant there.
Not sure about the terminology re. 'quote' but that's what I would use. CatQuest nailed it too
But this convo is already helpful, I will link this stuff via 'based on' for now. Some of the Halo tracks have little pieces of a few other tracks in there (like 3) but I think it will be fine

hi, if an artist releases a song (just a track that is not part of an album) in youtube and bandcamp, should that be added as a single to musicbrainz? or as a standalone recording?
ah, I looked for the track name and found many recordings but not this one. It was a good idea to check the artist first, since it was already in the database
