Howdy folks. I have been emailing with Andre Wiethoff, the creator of ExactAudioCopy about what to do when the MusicBrains plugin for EAC fails to find my CD, which happens quite often for me.
      • He says you can manually copy the track titles to the clipboard. But that only works when it's just the track titles, no track numbers, no track times, no track artists, just track titles.
      • So my thought is to add a plugin to MusicBrainz Picard to take any album and copy just the track titles to the clipboard.
      • My question is: would this be something that needs a plugin or does any feature of Picard that I'm not aware of already do this?
      • I might eventually consider also adding a plugin to automatically add metadata to CUE files if I can just learn how to make plugins at all
      • CatQuest
hi BenMcLean you're in the right place to ask, but it's fairly late in europe right now + very late in india. sooner or later someone will show up that na probably help you however :)
      • channel is logged too so if you get disconnected just check https://chatlogs.metabrainz.org/libera/musicbra...

If you click 'info' you can copy the full loaded details to clipboard, but it has the track times and such
      • BenMcLean
duncan, yeah I'm aware of that feature, which is why I was more specific in what I said :)

      • On fixing CUE files with a new plugin: my thought is if the album is loaded into Picard in the pane on the right hand side, then you could right-click on the album to bring up the context menu, then it would ask you what disc in a dialog box with a dropdown of valid disc numbers and you'd provide a disc number (only on multi-medium albums, assumes
      • number 1 if there's only 1) then you'd provide the path to the original cue file and then another path of where to save the edited .cue file. In this way, Picard could fix people's .cue files without screwing them up.
      • i meant "to bring up the context menu and you'd select a new menu item "Fix .cue file" and then it would ask you what disc..."
      • It might not work universally, like with some mixed media discs, the way the cue file works is not consistent across all apps.

Do you find that only EAC is unable to find the CD? Do other CD rippers like abcde find it?
      • BenMcLean
But with normal music CDs or enhanced CDs that put the data track at the end, it should be fine.
      • duncan, I have not tried other rippers yet but I can. I am testing with disc 1 of this album I added to musicbrainz myself on Saturday. https://musicbrainz.org/release/acd47b2e-361b-4...

Hi, I'm tagging four albums and I got confused. Basically these albums feature classical pieces that are heavily modified, and the credited artists are all pun-based parodies of the composers' real names. (see https://www.rwbk.fi/levyt/kuin_aanilevylta/ ). Should I simply fill in these nonexistent people as the "artist" on these tracks?
      • BenMcLean
vurpo, I would make the track artists be the real composers but "credited as" the joke names
      • vurpo
        I see, thanks
      • BenMcLean
like "Artist in MusicBrainz:" would be the real composer and "Artist as credited:" would be the joke name
      • duncan, The only device I have right now which currently has a real physical CD drive hooked up to it is a Windows 10 computer. I have Linux computers: they just don't have optical drives. And it looks like abcde is a Linux program so ... I'll need to hook up an external USB optical drive in order to try abcde which would have to be some time
      • later.
      • duncan
the reason i'm asking is that this sounds like an EAC bug and this is the sort of information that the EAC people might need to fix it

The Plugin API page says, "Right-click context menu actions can be added to albums, tracks and files in “Unmatched Files”, “Clusters” and the “ClusterList” (parent folder of Clusters)."
      • Does this mean I can't add a plugin for context menu actions for albums in the right side pane in Picard!?
      • Should I add an issue asking for the plugin API to expose that?
      • I mean yeah, it's possible to do almost anything that could do by making a browser plugin instead I guess
      • which would just work on the web site and not involve Picard
      • maybe that's what i should do: just make it a Chrome / Firefox extension
      • rdswift
BenMcLean, are you aware that you can create a release from Picard using the EAC ripper log file? No need to copy'n'paste anything.

      • <BenMcLean> Does this mean I can't add a plugin for context menu actions for albums in the right side pane in Picard!? Not at all. The context menu actions can be added to albums and tracks in the right-hand pane, and files in the clustering pane.
      • BenMcLean
        rdswift great
      • rdswift, the problem isn't getting the data from EAC to Picard. The problem is getting the data from MusicBrainz into EAC when their MusicBrainz plugin kind of sucks
      • rdswift
Okay, sorry I misunderstood the issue.

If I only have a CD drive in a machine that has no GUI so I can't run Picard like normal, is there still a way to get the disc ID and stuff on that computer so I can go on to submit and tag stuff on a different machine?
      • (I think my USB CD drive has broken)
      • The cd-discid command gives me a TOC, but I don't know if I can use that

BenMcLean: How weird, we have Plugins > Copy Cluster to Clipboard, but I never noticed that it doesn’t work on the right panel. I wonder if that plugin would just need some slight modification

aerozol, yes, I use that plugin quite often to submit to musicbrainz!
      • musicbrainz is really good. i just wish what we had for movies and TV shows was as good as musicbrainz.
      • Im like, spoiled, because when I started working on Jellyfin ... oh man their scrubbing metadata for movies and TV shows is way, way behind musicbrainz
      • (I mean working on putting my media onto my own jellyfin instance -- i haven't crossed the threshold into actual jellyfin software development yet haha)
      • video games are slightly better thanks to screenscraper

If you ever find yourself with an immense amount of three time (and maybe 5 friends too hah) feel free to make MovieBrainz! I was under the impression there was a decent host of movie databases out there. Does IMDB not do a great job?
      • *free time, duh
      • Ah I knew this was familiar, I already asked that question in the MovieBrainz thread: https://community.metabrainz.org/t/moviebrainz/...

I've looked into this a bit more and it turns out, what I need to do first is make a python script to pull just the track titles from a request to the MusicBrainz web API and send that to the clipboard, based on input of the URL for the album.
      • then work on making that a plugin for something else later on
      • aerozol
Welcome back! Just wondering, are you using IRC on something with logs? You may have missed some messages of mine
      • (absolutely nothing of importance though!)
      • BenMcLean
no, I need to switch to a real irc client. i am on kiwi atm
      • i'll look at the logs based on the link in the topic
      • aerozol
I can highly recommend irccloud by the way, wasn’t a fan of IRC before (not the right age range for IRC familiarity perhaps)
      • BenMcLean
yeah i used to use mIRC back in teh 2000s
      • If all I care about is just the track titles, would I be using URLs such a this? http://musicbrainz.org/ws/2/release/acd47b2e-36...
