wow, "A release that was created without any participation from the credited artist (e.g. a remix or mashup album that was created without the knowledge of the original artist(s)) should be credited to the artist who created and released it (the remix or mashup artist) instead of to the original artist.

oh, wait, that's only for *releases* ... not recordings, wow, weird.

so .. the mis-credited release I'm talking about...

one of the wrong track titles is straight up an error " 5 listed as "Back To Chicago"
back to chicago is a different song from Manhattan Melody

I'm struggling to see the alternate titles on this compilation as anything other than "guy at the record company was too lazy/careless to get the actual track titles right" https://www.discogs.com/release/142226-Various-Ki…
derwin: Not crediting the original artist makes sense when it’s egregious rip offs/bootlegs imo, just in terms of keeping artists discographies clean. I believe that was the reason for the exception

yeah, I don't really know if "keeping artists discographies clean" is something I actually care abou? why is it ok for their recordings to be unclean but not their releases? because few people look at recordings, I guess?

Even without the ‘cleanliness’ I don’t know if it makes sense to credit an artist that really had zero to do with a ‘release’ (e.g. bootleg remixes). But they definitely had something to with the recording. I suppose that’s still possible with official releases that the artist might hate the remix, if they’re on a crap label that doesn’t ask them about stuff 🤔

*might hate the remix release

do I understand correctly that "Edit of" shouldn't be used for what people in the disco scene call "edits" which are actually "bootleg remixes" ?
2023-05-04 12407, 2023
derwin
I've been using "edit of" / "edited by" for edits which don't add additional instruments, and "remix of" / "remixed by" for edits which do, in general?
2023-05-04 12443, 2023
derwin
but maybe I shouldn't be using "edit of" at all, for anything but official edits, like radio edits?
2023-05-04 12424, 2023
derwin
or, more broadly, "edit of/by" for things that ... call themselves "edit"

derwin: Hopefully someone else can answer that because I have no business talking about remixes vs edits when it comes to electronic music :D

technically speaking, IMO a "remix" should require stems. but most people don't use the term "remix" that way in practice.

if it were up to me, people would call :
2023-05-04 12414, 2023
derwin
- an edit/re-arrangement with no additional instruments added an "edit"
2023-05-04 12445, 2023
derwin
- a version with or without additional instruments, with or without permission, from stems, a "remix"
2023-05-04 12456, 2023
derwin
- a remix with permission an "official remix"
2023-05-04 12407, 2023
derwin
- a remix without permission a "bootleg remix"
2023-05-04 12417, 2023
derwin
- the acapella vocal from one track over the instrumental of another track a "blend"
2023-05-04 12424, 2023
derwin
- two or more tracks combined together with the intent of both being very identifiable a "mashup"
2023-05-04 12401, 2023
derwin
- a sequence of multiple tracks transitioned between in short order a "megamix"
2023-05-04 12439, 2023
derwin
- pretty much everything else a "flip" or just an original track with a sample
2023-05-04 12448, 2023
derwin
- a version of the original with much less vocal a "dub"
2023-05-04 12430, 2023
derwin
- a version of the original with no vocal an "instrumental" and no beat an "acapella" (obviously, lol)
when scan is used in Picard does it only look at the acoustic fingerprint or does it look at other metadata, file name, etc?

Using “Lookup” make use of existing metadata and file name.

Guest1853: Also 'exposing' port is not 'publishing' port in Docker Compose.
yvanzo I did publish the port with admin/configure add publishing-all-ports

Then it's an issue specific to Docker on WSL2 which I'm unable to help with.

iconoclast: to be exact, Picard uses only the fingerprint to do a lookup against AcoustId. But when there are multiple results (multiple linked recordings or even multiple AcoustIds) it does the same metadata comparison that is being used for selecting between multiple MB lookup results
