derwin: "edit" as in "shortened the thing and made a couple changes" or "significantly changed the thing"?
If the latter, probably a remix I'd say, but dunno
sbaildon
is there a musicbrainz publishing API that's less restrictive than the public http api? i'd like to build an ios shortcut to create edits directly from apple music
reosarevok
No. We specifically expect edits to be made via the website and not fully automated
There's importers to pre-seed content from apple music though
curiously, is there a reason for "expect edits to be made via the website and not fully automated"?
too many low quality edits or something?
reosarevok
Yes, to ensure people are at least looking at what they are doing
We do allow bots for some tasks, but they should generally have publicly available code and it's mostly for rote stuff like fixing links and whatnot rather than adding new data
a lot of people don't seem to pay much attention when using a-tisket, so I can only imagine what clients making fully automated edits via an API would be like
sbaildon
i get that music tagging is both complex and heavily opinionated, but what can really go wrong with a-tisket? i figure it just pulls well-formed metadata from streaming services
maybe it's naive to assume all streaming service metadata is 'well-formed', heh
reosarevok
It really is :)
It's not the worst, usually, but it can be a mess sometimes

sbaildon: metadata on Deezer, Spotify and Apple Music is an absolute clusterfuck
reosarevok: a typical edit in the context I'm talking about actually lengthens and significantly re-arranges it, and usually also has additional instruments

(and I say this as someone in the top decile, easily, of atisket users)

What's atisket?
Does anyone know of a good way to search for cover art? Just searching for the cd hasn't pulled up anything better than what's already in MB.
Can anyone provide a bit more explanation for what atisket does?
Also, any suggestions for finding cover art?
derwin
PelvicSorcery: it gets info from deezer, itunes and spotify and uses that to seed the release editor.
PelvicSorcery
So like a fancier version of the scripts?
Does it work with allmusic?
derwin
yes, a fancier version of the scripts, as a web app, and no, only those three sources
PelvicSorcery
Thanks. Now I just need to figure out cover art.
derwin
there's the enhanced cover art uploader script, which will automatically seed cover art from stores/sites there's a relationship on teh release to
PelvicSorcery
I think I tried that but I need to double check,.

Is the cover art uploader script the one that pulls from linked sources? Because for this release the only source linked is amazon and that art is already there.

PelvicSorcery: in general there are few sources of cover art for anything but very famous albums anywhere but digital stores or discogs.
PelvicSorcery
You are awesome! I didn't even think to look through discogs.

How do I get Picard to use my new cover art instead of the old one?
