Afternoon all. Just received and ripped my physical copy of this: https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/bac8a2d8-f5…

Is there an easy way to take one of the already entered 'digital media' releases, and use the same track list / recordings but split the media across physical CDs?
      • 2023-11-06 31037, 2023

      • adhawkins
For example, the first 'album' is shown as 'Digital Media 1' containing 14 tracks, that needs to be split across 2 CDs, each containing 7 tracks.

adhawkins: depends on your definition of easy :p

Reuse the same tracklist twice, remove the extra tracks

      • 2023-11-06 31059, 2023

      • adhawkins
That sounds doable. So when you add a new medium to a release, it'll allow me to base it on an existing medium?

I have a question regarding capitalisation of Artist names, specifically this: https://musicbrainz.org/artist/d313ecf6-9256-41cd… on his official website, the album covers, the Anjunabeats website, Genius.com, probably more... list him as ilan Bluestone (note the lower-case i). So, I was about to change this on the Artist page, however I can't find any documentation regarding capitalisation of artist names.
      • 2023-11-06 31016, 2023

      • tarulia
The help text refers to the capitalisation guidelines, however those don't mention artists at all, and the Style/Artist doc doesn't mention capitalisation, soooo I'm in a pickle...
      • 2023-11-06 31039, 2023

      • tarulia
However one could argue it would fall under Artist Intent according to this https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Style/Principle/Error… ?
      • 2023-11-06 31043, 2023

      • tarulia
Funny though because 7digital capitalises the i while Pretzel Rocks has it in lowercase, and both are Songtradr companies D:
      • 2023-11-06 31048, 2023

      • atj
tarulia: yes, definitely looks like artist intent. Data quality on streaming and download sites is generally pretty awful, particularly in areas like this. I generally consider sites like Bandcamp, Instagram, Soundcloud etc. as more likely to reflect artist intent.

mh not entirely sure about that. From what I understand it's considered separate artists because they have different styles of music
      • 2023-11-06 31030, 2023

      • tarulia
I'll do the rename for now and then I can think about the merge :D
      • 2023-11-06 31040, 2023

      • tarulia
        thanks for the input :)
      • 2023-11-06 31027, 2023

      • atj
tarulia: the justification needed for creating a separate artist in the style guidelines is "In some cases, a person (or, more rarely, a group) can perform under multiple names that they actually consider different projects"
      • 2023-11-06 31010, 2023

      • atj
so if you think it falls within that, fair enough
      • 2023-11-06 31059, 2023

      • tarulia
yeah the "different project" part is the key point I think, i.e. different genres = different projects
      • 2023-11-06 31007, 2023

      • atj
2 releases in 2012 doesn't reallt seem enough to be a separate project
      • 2023-11-06 31002, 2023

      • reosarevok
I'd say even one release is enough if that's the only time they did a separate genre and they seem to have changed the name intentionally for that reason
      • 2023-11-06 31010, 2023

      • reosarevok
But that's often hard to prove unless they say so
      • 2023-11-06 31059, 2023

      • atj
they didn't from what I can see - this release was actually released under "Ilan Bluestone" https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/3a090492-3f…
      • 2023-11-06 31027, 2023

      • atj
this one is available under the primary artist name too: https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/3fbab4cb-bd…
      • 2023-11-06 31051, 2023

      • atj
and both are apparently progressive trance, so the same genre that the artist puts out under "Ilan Bluestone"
      • 2023-11-06 31055, 2023

      • tarulia
hm yeah odd, it's listed under the full name on the anjunabeats website too: https://anjunabeats.com/eu/products/80331-capetown
      • 2023-11-06 31030, 2023

      • tarulia
it was the first release on the label though so potentially it was changed retroactively?
      • 2023-11-06 31053, 2023

      • tarulia
because look at the cover, the MB cover comes with Bluestone while the cover on the AB website has ilan Bluestone
      • 2023-11-06 31055, 2023

      • atj
possibly, definitely for "Runway / Better Than Before"

      • 2023-11-06 31036, 2023

      • tarulia
would that also require a second release in the release group then?
      • 2023-11-06 31016, 2023

      • atj
potentially, problem is you can't tell when it changed
      • 2023-11-06 31022, 2023

      • tarulia
        yea
      • 2023-11-06 31058, 2023

      • atj
the two artists should definitely be merged though, don't think there can be any argument it was a separate project
      • 2023-11-06 31001, 2023

      • tarulia
I'll take the beatport entry with a mountain of salt though, I'm assuming they just group everything because the name on the cover doesn't even match what they list as the artist
