ok, turns out that the artist I add from spotify to mb, dont seem to bother much with the way they give credits or name their tracks
      • on youtube they might write the tracks in greek, credit extra artists (like prod. by) and also credit the label properly
      • while on spotify they seem to omit all those and apart from that they credit artists who are part of the band performing the song
      • what a mess

Spotify credits influence who gets paid, I think
      • So maybe that's related?
      • They certainly influence discovery since you can click through etc
      • BlastboomStrice[
        hm I see
      • reosarevok[m]
I often find they're absolutely horrible, anyway, and will prefer any other source if available
      • BlastboomStrice[
        I see
      • reosarevok[m]
        For artist credits specifically
      • BlastboomStrice[
        Im close to doing this
      • or I might add the extra artists
      • reosarevok[m]
That said, for titles, if Spotify has English titles for example and YouTube has Greek, that's probably two releases :)
      • BlastboomStrice[
I think they just transliterate it
      • they are "tiny" artists, ~2-3k monthly listeners and their album covers are in greek
      • reosarevok[m]
Generally that'd still mean two releases :) Not that you have to add both
      • BlastboomStrice[
        hm I see
      • one release on spotify and one on youtbe?
      • s/youtbe/youtube/
      • reosarevok[m]
(in that case I'd personally just add the Greek script one for my own use tbh, but both are official options AFAICT)
      • BlastboomStrice[
        I see
      • yeah I add the greek one
      • and then tend to add an alias
      • darkdrift has quit
      • I think my strategy will be to first do the harmony mports with a few manual additions
      • and after I add like ~30artists' discographies, I'll return to enrich the metadata (with extra credits, aliases, links etc.)
      • * aliases, links,, * isrc etc.)

I just bought an album and every track has a different artwork in its meta tags. Can/Should I upload them to musicbrainz? How would I extract them?

Hi. Through the "Recently added" links I came across this release: https://musicbrainz.org/release/a83c8d84-f57a-4... . The editing history suggests it was automatically imported using a tool named "Harmony". None of the titles follow the English language styleguide. I'm just wondering if its a Good Idea to use such tools if they produce non-conforming entries?

Vacuity: Harmony and other importers just copy whatever's on the streaming services. It's up to the individual editors to capitalize, but in this case I personally agree with lowercase because it might be artist intent, more and more artists decide to publish music with exclusively lowercase, uppercase or sentence case titles nowadays.
      • The tool is not the problem is what I'm trying to say, I'd recommend you use it too if you frequently edit spotify(etc.)!

@_discord_971766217830432858:chatbrainz.org the best that can be done right now is to add all the images to the release with type "track". You write down which track it's for in the comment.
      • Vacuity
RandomMushroom12: ok, thanks. Yes, I also though about artist intend. And followe the links to the 4 streaming services. Apple has it upper/lower, all other have it only lowercase. So I doubt artist intend :)

      • RandomMushroom12: I only add data manually from missing CD releases. :)

if you open up the tracks in picard without moving them to an album, you should be able to click on each track to get the cover art from that track (iirc you can save or drag+drop it from the picard ui?)
      • Vacuity
RandomMushroom12: and I agree. if the tool allows to make adjustments during import, then the tool is of course not the problem

shisma.: If it is a Bandcamp release, you can automatically import the track images with the Enhanced Cover Art Uploads userscript.

Vacuity: If everything except apple music has it lowercase isn't it more likely artist intent that apple music automatically ignores? I'm not sure about harmony but MusicBrainz's own release add page (which harmony just fills in, editors have the last say) has a guess case button and manual editing ofcourse. For CD's there's a Discogs import script if you didn't know already :) But they have different style guidelines too so be
      • aware of that
      • Vacuity
RandomMushroom12: Yes, I know about Discogs. I'll check the according import script, thanks. (and I'm aware of the different style guide. I already had a peek a few times, but noticed they also have their fair share of typos in the titles.)

yeah for that case specifically i'd ignore the capitalisation style guide, especially since the bandcamp release (which i'd say is the "most direct" from the artist) uses lowercase
      • Vacuity
As I mostly have to add missing German language CDs - and their style guide also differs for German language - importing from them might need manual edits of each track, as MB has no "guess case" for German language. (which I can totally understand :) )
      • M522[m]
generally speaking i ignore the style guide if it's pretty clear that the artist intentionally uses lowercase/uppercase
      • Vacuity
M522[m]: Bandcamp is a good points, especially if the bandcamp page is directly from the artist. thanks!
