Are there any rules against using something like oxipng to compress covert art png?
Lynne
no, but it's pointless, the internet/coverart archive does its own processing
so it undoes anything you may do, whether its better or worse
at least iirc

if each track in a release has unique cover art, does one add it to the release instead? i.e. in the case of [tohomoko - the aerodynamics of an album](https://musicbrainz.org/release/9cf94d4e-dd98-4314-b387-20510ff2e20a) each track has cute unique covers visible only in the [soundcloud release](https://soundcloud.com/tohomoko/sets/the-aerodynamics-of-an-album-1)
here, example for track 01:

If these are covers sourced from official sources or streaming services I would just upload the original with no changes. For something like your own scans format would be up to you. People downloading can do any re-compressing or other changes they deem necessary for their own files.

cpli: yes you can add each track's artwork to the album, and select the track checkmark
the enhanced cover art uploads script does this automatically, and adds a comment indicating which track it's for
(i'm inclined to add the missing media, i just wonder if i'm missing something myself :-)

ivy: in the release group there are 3 different CD releases, all with different number of media and tracks, and all with different barcodes. Perhaps there are really different releases of this CD? Do you have a copy in hand with 5 CDs?
ivy
Vacuity: i do not have a physical copy in hand, but since this release lists 5 cat#, i think it is the 5xCD release (Out of Line usually do one cat# per CD)
Vacuity
ivy: ah, I see, the OUT 830 to OUT 849... but then, without access to the physical release, or another trustworthy source I would not add anything to this release
I'm not deep enough into the specifics of MB yet to give valid advice on this situation. I could imagine it would be OK to add the 2 audiobook CDs as media, if the necessary information is available form a trustworthy source (and ideally with DiscIds)
otoh it could also be sufficient to add an annotation to this release regarding the two audio books CDs
ivy
perhaps i will add them as a votable edit
Vacuity
Discogs in the "barcode and other identifiers" secions has the matrix and catalog numbers of each CD, so it should be possible to add this information to MB without access to the physical discs. all that is missing then would be the DiscIds
