Hello, I'm having trouble on edit #125875977. Problem is, this release turned out to have an English tracklist on anywhere except JP. Even in JP if you set your app language to English, tracklist turns to English. How should I proceed about this, should I just add EN tracklist as a pseudo-release or add another release as XW except JP? Harmony aggregates data with JP tracklist.
I'm very confused and editor rinsuki, who pointed out the issue, also don't know how we should do it.
I searched the forum and couldn't find an issue similar to this. If anyone could help I would be very glad

What's up with GTINs extracted from iTunes artwork URLs by Harmony? I ask cuz I've been working with indie releases that don't contain any barcode on the physical product, and I *guess* the other streaming services don't supply a barcode..... this GTIN only seems to be coming from iTunes's artwork. If I do a web search for these GTIN nothing else on the web turns up, so I'm wondering if these GTINs are really official in these
cases?
reosarevok[m]
iTunes requires a barcode AFAICT
So everyone needs to give their release one - which doesn't make it any less official
zoedivision[m]
It's not possible for it to be automatically assigned on iTunes's end?
reosarevok[m]
I don't think that's how it works - but even if it did it still would be a barcode :)
https://itunespartner.apple.com/music/support/5... says that " For music to be streamed or sold on Apple Music and the iTunes Store, each product (such as an album, EP, single, and video) must have a unique UPC, EAN, or JAN, and ISRC"
zoedivision[m]
So, shouldn't I be able to look up a release from these GTINs, elsewhere on the web?
reosarevok[m]
Sometimes you can
Sometimes they only use them for this kind of stuff
Also at Tidal if you pick that instead of Deezer (the do pre-release differently so you can't select both together it seems)
But googling 5059449216478 gives you nothing of use
zoedivision[m]
Okay, I see now that the other services contain the same GTIN too
So extracting from iTunes is just the easiest way to find it I presume eh
reosarevok[m]
I guess so :)

should a compilation release of EPs still be classified as an EP? orrrrr does it become an album? is it one of those persnickety cases of "whatever the artist/label calls it"?
Lotheric[m]
What's the total length ?
zoedivision[m]
Is there an EP -> album length threshold?
Lotheric[m]
yup
An extended play (EP) is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single but fewer than an album.[1] Contemporary EPs generally contain up to eight tracks and have a playing time of 15 to 30 minutes.[7] An EP is usually less cohesive than an album and more "non-committal"
zoedivision[m]
That says 'generally'. And I have some interesting EPs by Autechre to introduce you to, lol. But my question is about a compilation release of definite EPs
Singles compilations are usually considered comp. albums, so there's *that*
Oh, and that's Wikipedia anyway, not the MB style guide
Lotheric[m]
I'd say it's a compilation album (without any more info on the release)
I'm diving into the forums to see what the community thinks — surely I'm not the first to ask this question lol
incidentally I looked up two EP boxsets I already know of; for one group theirs is entered as Album, for the other, it's EP. Lol.

06:29 < zoedivision[m]> Is there an EP -> album length threshold?
"no"
my standard is that an EP is : 1) titled "EP" or ad copy mentions "EP" 2) 2-6 tracks 3) not titled after one of the tracks, or if it is, there aren't multiple mixes of that same track ("single" indicators)
there's other indicators like whether the label tends to release things which are obviously singles or if every other release seems like an EP
shorter : "most 2-6 track releases are EPs unless they are obviously singles"

fwiw the Musicbrainz guidelines are pretty clear in that you shouldn't consider things EPs unless the artist calls them that somewhere
