      • notthejohn[m]
UltimateRiff (@_discord_412453844132429824:chatbrainz.org) Dolby Atmos is an option on the AM listing for that release but it is not the only version available there. When not listening on a Dolby Atmos capable playback device it is the same recording as the other platforms. AM doesn’t distinguish between the versions
      • Not sure how that’s handled for other releases where that’s the case.

there's been a few forum threads about Dolby Atmos in particular, I forget what the general practice is tho...

Tidal support atmos too, and often has separate releases for them from others. You can use https://xythium.github.io/tidal.html to search releases on tidal. And from what I have seen people usually create separate recordings for atmos as UltimateRiff (@_discord_412453844132429824:chatbrainz.org) said.

Hmm. https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/b847c5b3-... is a release by Бумбокс (Boombox); there are pending edits to change the artist for the release group and release from Latin to Cyrillic (https://musicbrainz.org/artist/4ab0dc51-a8dd-45...).
      • Problem: the RGs were originally added from aTisket, based on Deezer and Spotify. Deezer now lists the albums with the artist in Cyrillic, but Spotify still gives Latin. What’s the proper attribution in a case like this? Does the difference warrant splitting the singular release into two?

<crism> "Problem: the RGs were originally..." <- Spotify shows the artist name in Cyrillic for me, probably it localizes it depending on your country or web browser language setting.

goldenshimmer[m]: Thanks. Hmm. Probably makes sense to use the canonical artist name, then.

metadataismydrug (@_discord_1073873931611680859:chatbrainz.org) I don’t disagree with making separate recordings for the Atmos version but which would I use on the release? It’s one listing on the AM end that effectively plays one of two different recordings depending on your playback settings.
      • Only thing I can think of is to annotate it, I guess. I don't think there's a way to associate multiple recordings per track with one tracklist. And I don't feel like making two releases that link to the same AM page is right
      • FWIW I checked a couple other releases with the same situation and there's no mention of the Atmos aspect at all on their pages. So for now I will just leave it be
