Hi. I need some guidance on adding a classical release
      • for the release "artist" I'm doing "composer, composer; performer, performer" as the style guide dictates
      • but
      • for the tracklist page, do I do the track artist (composer), or do I do the recording artist (performer)?
      • if the answer is the composer, then how to I ensure the recordings tab correctly has the performers?

@fliz: The tracklist artists should be the composer, yes. For the recording artists, you have to edit them after adding the release, but we have userscripts that remove the tediousness from this
      • https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Guides/Userscripts "Replace recording artist from recording AR"
      • fliz
ah ok. I was just concerned that I would be adding new recordings to the database that are bad.
      • elomatreb[m]
you don't need to be overly concerned about that specifically, everything can be fixed later
      • esp. the classical guidelines aren't super obvious and require more work than other types of music
      • fliz
      • now how to I run the script. I already had greasemonkey installed and installed the script
      • it says it can edit from an artist or work page. I think I need to install the one that works on a release page
      • the documentation for the script is unclear
      • Replace recording artist from recording AR
      • Applied on:
      • Release overview page
      • Description:
      • Copy the performers in recording relationships to the selected recordings "artist" field
      • How to use:
      • Click the "Show checkboxes" in the right-side script menu to display the individual recordings. Select the ones you want to modify (there is an optional "select all" button). Click "Replace selected artists" to apply.
      • NB: the edit will be sent only once but in case of failure you can click "Replace selected artists" again to retry only the selected recordings where a failure occured
      • I don't see "show checkboxes"
      • I see the select all button, but it does nothing
      • also, the performers in this case are Mireille Podeur and Orlando Bass.
      • They are credited as "Duo Podeur & Bass"
      • I can use the "artist as credited" and "join phrase" to get the output to be "Podeur & Bass", but if I add a blank addition artist to include the join phrase "Duo" it throws an error because it doesn't like the blank artist
      • any idea how I squeeze "duo" in there? Should I just say the artist as credited for Mireille Poduer is "Duo Podeur"?
      • ___nick___ has quit
      • elomatreb[m]
fliz: depends on if you consider the "Duo" part of the actual artist name, or just an information that this is in fact a duo
      • I think I would leave it as "Podeur & Bass"
      • regarding the userscript, you first need to add the relevant relationships (like you did with the first track), then once that is finished you can use the box in the sidebar
      • another thing you might do from the relationship editor (https://musicbrainz.org/release/8a539d26-2176-4...) is link your recordings to Works, that way you get composer information
      • fliz
ok. I'll give it a shot. I'll be back with further questions if anything's unclear. Even if I think I did everything right, I'll ping in here afterwards.
      • AJ_Z0 has quit
      • ok. I think I added the performers (and vocals for the 2 tracks with them) and also linked the works
      • I'm unclear on the next step (actually getting the script to work)
      • elomatreb[m]
Do you see the box in the sidebar on the release page?
      • fliz
yeah. but it doesn't have a "show checkboxes" like the documentation says

There should be a "Replace artists" section you can expand, which also makes the checkboxes show up for me

      • documentation
      • Replace artists
      • First select recordings to update
      • Exclude rels with pending edits
      • Make all edits votable
      • Set [unknown] artist if no rel
      • Skip minor rels (e.g. concertmaster)
      • below "first select recordings to update" there's only a "select all" button
      • ..which does nothing when I click it

      • ok.. I just looked at the script on the github page and it seems to suggest I need to use tampermonkey instead of greasemonkey
      • do you think that might be the issue? what script manager are you using elomatreb[m] ?
      • elomatreb[m]
I'm using Tampermonkey, don't know if that makes a difference though
      • though I guess if the script docs say that it does
      • fliz
I'll install that one and see if it makes a difference
      • brb
      • ok. that made the difference. it appears to be working now.
      • huh.. it looks like all the edits require a vote
      • elomatreb[m]
fliz: Edits that change or remove information will (generally) not apply instantly, but they will still apply after at most one week even if nobody votes on them

ok. can you take a look at the final result and give me any feedback?
      • elomatreb[m]
looks good so far (at least as far as I can tell, I don't know if the capitalization is right for Spanish)
      • potential improvements: Since this is a digital release, do you have any links to the release on online stores/streaming providers? That helps a lot with identifying stuff
