tarulia: be careful with the Bandcamp dates, the artist can list whatever they want there. I usually refer to the automatic community post that gets made when a new release is published to get the "real" release date; there's also a userscript that can get the date.

yeah I'm not relying on anything right now, just trying to find more sources :'D

all good, just making sure you're aware cuz it took me a while to figure that one out, haha

      • tarulia[m]1
where are those community posts? I dont see a link on the page
      • 2025-09-21 26448, 2025

      • notthejohn[m]
oh interesting, i guess that particular page hides the community section
      • 2025-09-21 26425, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
oh there I see it on another
      • 2025-09-21 26457, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
but couldn't that community post have been drafted ahead of the release already? 🤔
      • 2025-09-21 26423, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
not that it's relevant here, just in general
      • 2025-09-21 26408, 2025

      • notthejohn[m]
i believe the "new release" posts i'm thinking of are autogenerated by bandcamp when the artist posts something
      • 2025-09-21 26430, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
mh guess that would make sense
      • 2025-09-21 26438, 2025

      • notthejohn[m]
here's an example: https://utsup.bandcamp.com/community?sid=12816982 this post has a date reflecting when the album was actually uploaded to bandcamp (in 2020) as opposed to the 2009 release date on the album's page
      • 2025-09-21 26433, 2025

      • notthejohn[m]
whoops that link might be busted this one should work instead https://utsup.bandcamp.com/community?sid=12816982…

      • notthejohn[m]
but you get the idea, i think
      • 2025-09-21 26400, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
I think that refers to the album's release not the digital release

      • 2025-09-21 26418, 2025

      • notthejohn[m]
        yeah thats what i'm saying
      • 2025-09-21 26440, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
I mean it makes sense when it's the same album
      • 2025-09-21 26414, 2025

      • notthejohn[m]
the artist manually set the release date as it appears on bandcamp to 2009, when the album originally released on CD, but the bandcamp release specifically was uploaded in 2020 so that would technically be the release date for that version on MB
      • 2025-09-21 26429, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
        yea

      • tarulia[m]1
so yeah IDK what to do about Child of Light, it's possible the digital release came out 2 weeks after the CD but only Spotify and Qobuz seem to list it as such.. IDK what Tidals/Amazons/Deezers convention is with these
      • 2025-09-21 26451, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
Could be they all 3 list the original release of the album not the digital release date
      • 2025-09-21 26402, 2025

      • tarulia[m]1
(well deezer is wrong in this case anyway but you get the point)

then again Spotify isn't known for accurate metadata either 🫠

The first entry on archive.org is october 2014, so not helpful either. But fun fact, they seem to have changed the cover art:

i would say if they're otherwise the same, use the earliest date, or if you want to play it safe just put 2014 with no month or day and notate the conundrum with the different release dates

mh also interesting... in this second version of the page, it's actually under Dare to Care records:

So that begs the question if the Brave Musique version should be an entirely new release

        * the change, but that is also when the description added Dare to Care
