ruaok: good idea re: messaging him :) Sent a twitter DM, let's see
      • ruaok
reosarevok: I think that will make everyone happy.
      • zas
ruaok: changes on dagon don't have much positive impact
      • ruaok
well, as long as the users are happy, that is what matters most, no?
      • zas
number of established connections on unix sockets didnt change compared to lobe
      • ruaok
did we turn on keep alive?
      • zas
output bandwitdh usage was almost doubled
      • perhaps app backends don't support keepalive ?
      • ruaok
        internally, right?
      • zas
        yes
      • ruaok
are we certain keeplive is enabled by default?
      • or did you turn it on?
      • zas
      • Freso
opatel99: If you're bored, there are plenty of unclaimed coding tasks, you can go write some reviews, there are the BrainzBot issues, beets has a bunch of tasks, but you're also free to poke at beets' own bug tracker for some of its non-MeB related issues, there's morituri that has a number of open issues, including some MeB related, ...
      • zas
i did, at least in the conf, check /etc/nginx/sites-available/musicbrainz on dagon
      • the only positive thing i see, but cannot explain is that it seems we have less 50x responses
      • see starting at 12:27 (local)
      • i will make a dagon only graph for this, it should be more obvious
      • actually not that obvious, perhaps just nothing
      • and dagon load didn't decrease, the gzip thing doesn't cost much
      • on bert i saw no change either, so the gain is very low if any
      • aquarius has quit
      • Freso
It's too white out there. Brr.
      • Freso crawls back under the cover
      • reosarevok
        :D
      • It's nice!
      • zas
ruaok: i'll revert changes, just keeping warning fixes
      • ruaok
        yeah, not terribly surprising.
      • ok.
      • more graphs seem like a good idea.
      • reosarevok: wow, that was fast. I like this arrangement.
      • reosarevok
I mean, it's harder if the stuff isn't on iTunes or the like, but still, yeah :)
      • Pretty good
      • zas
yes, i will over the time anyway, but tails disk write speed will be a limit. The whisper database graphite is using isn't great for that. Since now we are using grafana there are more alternatives (influxDB e.g.), i'll have a look at this later. Of course, using a SSD would improve things, but i prefer to work on software for now, whisper is just bad at
      • using the disk imho (and this is shared by many according to the web).
      • ruaok
lets hope that if people agree that someone will improve it.
      • reosarevok: another case for colby ray?
      • reosarevok
Do you mean the Ben one? Nah, that seems to be more of a BBC mismatch again. I'm on this.
      • ruaok

      • Gentlecat
ruaok: need to clarify one thing about http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-1801
      • ruaok
        sure
      • Gentlecat
do we want to share these notifications between projects or each is supposed to have it's own?
      • ruaok
        shared.
      • Gentlecat
        ok
      • made some updates to https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Rg1gDMC31sy..., we also started to discuss some other specifics
      • alastairp

        Lunch now. Mob after lunch.
      • opatel99
Freso: By name, there is no identifier to automate the manipulation of that field. Additionally, I'm skeptical the scraper could work. I have found three events. All with different class naming structures.
      • alastairp
cool. I'm going to head in too
      • Freso
        opatel99: Sounds amazing...
      • opatel99
Mineo: I fixed http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/OTHER-214 but can't upload the files because File Entity too Large or something...
      • Freso: Sorry? I can still go the API route however :)
      • Freso
opatel99: I was being sarcastic. I'm not a fan of Facebook in general, and I'm not surprised they can't even be consistent on their own pages.
      • (Unless they do it deliberately to deter scraping in favour of their API.)
      • opatel99
Well just opening their console on a facebook url has large ASCII word picture to something along the lines of "STOP, console is dangerous... "
      • Mineo
opatel99: I'm not sure what jiras upload limits are, but keep in mind that twitter might have limits as well
      • reosarevok
opatel99: using the API might be a better idea if it's any good
      • I think that's what the iTunes one does
      • opatel99
        Mineo: All are compliant.
      • ariscop has quit
      • reosarevok
opatel99: re: importing urls - something like this might work? https://github.com/dufferzafar/Userscripts/blob...
      • If so, the relevant linkID for event-social network seems to be 783
      • opatel99
        reosarevok: That should work! Thanks!
      • reosarevok
(that's specifically for releases but I'd expect that kind of code to be the same for all)
      • (if it's not, ask bitmap :) )
      • opatel99
Freso: New plan. Update the Facebook API script to scrape the url from the facebook page, pull out the unique event-id, run it through the API, get all this information, and GET request to event/create.
      • reosarevok
That sounds like a good plan to me :)
      • Does the API require any sort of key or is it just open?
      • opatel99
reosarevok: There is a key. Limit is 600 requests in 60 seconds. It's not exactly simple to register for one either... Freso and I agreed that it may be ok to start with using our own key. If demand exceeds supply, a fallback key as well.
      • reosarevok
600 requests in 60 seconds? Does it need one request per event?
      • If so I really hope we don't exceed that :D
      • (well I hope we do I guess but it'd require a lot of people suddenly deciding to import events at the same time)
      • opatel99
reosarevok: Correction. 60 requests in 600 seconds.
      • reosarevok
Oh, ok. Still, I think it might be fine :)
      • opatel99
Also, I will shoot for one request per event.
      • But I'm not sure if Authenticate user log in is one request...
      • Freso
        reosarevok: How's dufferzafar
      • 's iTunes importer compared to nikki's?
      • reosarevok
I dunno. I use nikki's one because it's what I had installed, I think this was a fork of some sort??
      • gcilou
        Freso, sorry!
      • Freso
gcilou: Sorry for dragging this out, but I need to go teach some (other ;)) kids now, so I won't be able to actually watch your video for several more hours. :( I will get around to it tonight though. Sorry!
      • Freso not Canadian!
      • gcilou
        Freso, ok.
      • Canadian?
      • Freso
gcilou: Also, your dad wrote about you on LinkedIn, in case you didn't know. :p
      • gcilou
        Yes, I saw that :)
      • (I did get a LinkedIn)
      • Freso
So much for no social media ;)
      • gcilou
I know.. my mom wanted me to get one so..
      • chrisskye
gcilou -In Canadian, you must start or end every sentence with “sorry”.
      • Freso
Heh. To further your pianist career? :)
      • chrisskye
unless the phrase ends in “eh"
      • gcilou
chrisskye, Ah, I see now. lol
      • Freso
Also, chrisskye would know. She is Canadian.
      • chrisskye
        multi-generations
      • Freso
        :)
      • gcilou
Freso, no, I don't know why she thought I needed one. I don't really play much anymore
      • Freso
gcilou: Ah. Oh well. :) (Also, you should play more! And you should go to stuff like Ethno while you're young enough.)
      • Freso is too old now
      • gcilou
Yeah, I'm more focused on violin (and school) now
      • Freso
      • Oh, violin is neat too. Def. check out Ethno if you're up for a non-classical music camp. :)
      • zas
i'm doing an experiment that is likely to break mb, so expect errors on main website within next minutes.
      • Freso was one of the organisers for the first two Ethno Denmarks
      • ruaok
alastairp: MOB is a comfy space so far. I'm quite enjoying it. friendly people, good coffee.
      • Freso also set in the JMI Ethno Working Group for a few years.
      • Freso
        *sat
      • zas
        What's MOB ? MetaBrainz Office Base ?
      • Freso (so may be slightly biased)
      • gcilou
I'm more into classical though.. That'd be cool. I have lots of violin auditions and concerts and solos and rehearsals coming up..
      • Freso
zas: Makerspace of Barcelona, I think.
      • gcilou: As a musician and a dancer, I will just say that it can definitely pay off to get familiar with styles you don't normally frequent. Even if you don't go all-in on the unfamiliar styles, getting to know them *will* increase your artistic "vocabulary".

Freso: can we please add a GCI task for replacing the logos on https://musicbrainz.org/doc/About ?
      • Freso
        Ha.
      • I think it's too small for a GCI task.
      • Ping me in a couple of hours, and I'll get it done.
      • Or maybe gcilou wants to do it if I don't get to it first. :)
      • ruaok
        :)
      • Freso
(The logos need to be updated at https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/About and then ping me so I can "transclude" the changes to mb.o/doc/)
      • Freso heads out into the white... D:
      • ruaok
for when you return, Freso: Maybe make a GCI task for listing our all of our projects on the metabrainz about page?
      • chrisskye: ping
      • chrisskye
        si...digame
      • ruaok
        :)
      • have you responded to carlos yet?
      • chrisskye
I sent the message yesterday...according to the summary I put here...think you were copied
      • ruaok
yes, sorry. I meant with a more substatial response.
      • chrisskye
        ...no.
      • ruaok
maybe we should collude on what our first, lowball, offer should be.
      • chrisskye
I think it is ok to let him wait a few days.
      • ruaok
is that a tactic or "let's not stress about this"?
      • ruaok is flexible either way.
      • chrisskye
        basically
      • I’m hoping to talk to a gestor regarding getting a NIF/or not on Monday.
      • ruaok
ok, fair nuff. but, when you have a moment we should discuss what our low ball offer ought to be, so you can respond when you feel the time is right.
      • perfect.
      • gcilou
        Freso, yeah I agree.
      • chrisskye
Who do you have as creditors that can give a reference...in Spanish...
      • gcilou
ruaok, those logos do look very outdated.
      • ruaok
compared to the new stuff, they are hideous.
      • gcilou
        I agree.

I think everyone agrees they were ugly. I kinda like the MB one, but it's not because it's pretty :d
      • gcilou is unsure how to "update" that so will probably just wait for Freso to do it :)
