It's mostly about localizing “core data” which is licensed under CC0.

Note that translation doesn't have to be under the same license as the source code.

I think CC0 makes sense, in theory, but let's see what he says

yes, it was a totally different codebase.

I wont a $15k grand from Helix Community/Real Networks and right as the check arrived they pestered me to start the project and give it a name.

I think Picard is my most successful desktop projects. there must be millions of downloads over the years

mayhem: yes, likely. can't find a definitive blog post of the first version that got called picard.

I only got involved when the Qt rewrite was close to ready. my first commits where in 2007 :)
