VojtchFonr[m]: a work and a recording are "real things", a canonical recording is just shorthand for uses who don't need anything better than "this is roughly that I guess?"

      • VojtchFonr[m]
reosarevok: but tbh I cant see where that would be better than using the Work (except that a lot of recordings dont have an associated work from what I saw)
      • 2023-06-12 16314, 2023

      • reosarevok
        Well that's one thing
      • 2023-06-12 16352, 2023

      • reosarevok
But also, you might want to say "it's this artist's performance of the song" and still not care if it's live or studio for example
      • 2023-06-12 16343, 2023

      • reosarevok
Like, it's not the same to say "I like Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams" or "I like Sweet Dreams" (maybe you only know and like the Marilyn Manson version)
      • 2023-06-12 16338, 2023

      • reosarevok
In an ideal world tbh I wish nobody would want canonical recordings - that'd mean our data is great, all duplicates are merged, and you can just say "I like the studio version / the 1995 live version / whatever"
