        Hi Everyone!
      • Not much for me last week. Usual code reviews and replying to bug over mail for the LB app.
      • Go lucifer!
      • lucifer
        hi all!
      • last week, i worked on fixing some issues with popularity data and recommendations generation. also, answered multiple GSoC queries, reviewed a few PRs and diagnosed issues causing LB downtime.
      • finally, worked on moving some long running tasks to a background service. delete listens and delete account at the moment, export listens to be added in future.
      • that's it for me. aerozol next?

        Hi Everyone!
      • Last week I was mostly busy with my mid-semester examinations, so couldn’t work much.
      • I did spend sometime fixing all the tests and making changes based on monkey[m]’s PR reviews.
      • That’s it for me.

I also pushed the artist radio for LB radio server implementation forward which was merged last week. thanks for your help on this lucifer .
      • now we just need to do tags and we can release an improved LB radio -- one that should in theory scale better.
      • once that is done, I'll circle back with Ansh and aerozol[m] on how to improve the UI so we can drag the feature out of beta.
      • I'll be traveling for the next week, I'll still be working a few hours in a day before diving into exploring my destination.
      • fin.

      • Hi!
      • I wanna start with good news: I finally finished the feature of importing playlists from Spotify!! Now the code is implemented using troi (I spent a whole week fighting w it, glad I could make it). For now, some little changes for frontend is left. So Working on feedback monkey gave me!
      • Im having a break rn from uni, so now I can spend more time for contributions. I am thinking of already starting to work on the cool feature we discussed with aerozol and @UltimateRiff
      • Soo We will have playlist labels and folders soon ;)
      • That's it for me

      • lastly finished the campaign of watch dogs 3 (any video game lover here ??)
      • this is it for me
      • mayhem
        right-o. thanks Tarun_0x0.
      • that is it for reviews.
      • the only topic we have now are areas in LB. aerozol[m], go!
      • aerozol[m]
Hi! This topic is related to LB-1538
      • BrainzBot
        LB-1538: Set user location/area (e.g. for events) https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/LB-1538
      • aerozol[m]
A user has submitted a PR to add (optional, nobody freak out please) user areas to LB, but we may want to discuss this first.
      • I believe mayhem and lucifer had discussed adding this to OAuth eventually, but it would be nice to confirm what we want to do and if anyone has any input. I would like to see events added to LB soon, personally, and there is some contributor interest
      • mayhem
well, more specifically, we could move the user's area from MB to LB.
      • previously we discussed keeping that as MB only.
      • yvanzo
MB already has user’s location if provided.
      • mayhem
        yes, that.
      • lets turn this question on its head: Does anyone object to moving areas from MB to LB as part of the OAuth migration?
      • aerozol[m]
Got it - is there any plan to do that? Is it something a new contributor could do via a ticket?
      • I object if there’s no timeline :)
      • yvanzo
Is it an opt-in from LB user?
      • monkey[m]
        Moving to LB? Not MeB?
      • mayhem
no, this is part of the Oauth move that we've been working on. its a minor change to also migrate that column of data.
      • yvanzo
Like a button: fetch data from my MB profile.
      • aerozol[m]
Otherwise it makes sense to me. The other thing is that it’s probably a good idea to support setting multiple areas in LB, for people who travel or live close to a number of cities, etc (I think this will be quite common). But that could be in tandem
      • mayhem
sorry, badly stated. Move to MeB, so it becomes available for all projects, not just MB/LB
      • monkey[m]
        Got it. Makes more sense
      • mayhem
one of the motivations for LB to have areas is to give concert recommendations to a user.
      • yvanzo
It’s for MeB OAuth then, not LB, got it.
      • (not just LB)
      • mayhem
giving concert recs for concerts on a different continent sucks. (I"m looking at you spotify)
      • monkey[m]
Makes sense to me that this info would live wherever the account lives
      • mayhem
        yeah, me too.
      • monkey[m]
And make it accessible to other MeB projects
      • mayhem
ok, I am not hearing any objections.
      • aerozol[m]
        Well, you did :P
      • rdswift
Perhaps the user could subscribe to a city / artist / whatever to get notifications of related announcements?
      • yvanzo
        👍 monkey
      • mayhem
        wait, did I miss something?
      • aerozol[m]
If we want to allow for multiple areas to follow, then would we want to be implementing something in LB anyway?
      • mayhem
rdswift: yes, the actual implementations of these features is outside the current scope. but I would expect something like that, yes,
      • I think we should allow for one area for now, in MeB and see how it goes.
      • yvanzo
        aerozol[m]: in MeB OAuth even
      • aerozol[m]
My objection was if there’s no timeline for OAuth, then this could be holding up a feature in LB that a lot of people are interested in working on
      • mayhem
if people scream that they need more than one area, lets consider that then
      • yvanzo
(later on of course, not a priority)
      • rdswift
Okay, I misunderstood. I thought that was one of the drivers for making the user's location available.
      • mayhem
aerozol[m]: Oauth is going to happen before we work on concert stuff -- or at least before we dedicate team resources to working on concert stuff.
      • aerozol[m]
We have contributor PR’s for this
      • mayhem
and adding concert features is pretty unlikely without lucifer's help
      • which PR?
      • aerozol[m]
But I can mark them as blocked :)
      • yvanzo
        aerozol[m]: multiple areas?
      • aerozol[m]
        LB-1538
      • BrainzBot
        LB-1538: Set user location/area (e.g. for events) https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/LB-1538
      • monkey[m]
        LB#2801
      • BrainzBot
LB-1538: Added ability to add area from settings page: https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-serv...
      • aerozol[m]
yvanzo: yes, because I live in X town doesn’t mean I’m not interested in events from X area/s
      • mayhem
this only add the support for adding areas. it doesn't actually do any of the concert listing feature.
      • yvanzo
aerozol[m]: the PR seems to allow for only one area
      • lucifer
we have one PR the above and another user who offered to implement aerozol's mockups for the events on artist pages
      • aerozol[m]
Yes, it’s a start, the convo is on the ticket
      • lucifer
the actual part of gathering event data from MB into LB caches is the one part left which will likely be done by me
      • aerozol[m]
I can def. mark it as blocked, but good to have a discussion to reference. But I’m not entirely convinced that user area will always coincide with what events users want to see
      • mayhem
lucifer: that is what I am trying to say. we need your help to do that. but I am unwilling to open more issues right now. we have loads of open projects.
      • aerozol[m]
lucifer: are you keen to wait for OAuth?
      • Then I can mark these as blocked
      • lucifer
aerozol[m]: yeah i think waiting for OAuth is the sensible move.
      • aerozol[m]
Okay, thanks for the discussion everyone!
      • yvanzo feels like different issues are mixed at once.
      • mayhem
ok, lets mark it blocked. move the area to MeB during the Oauth move. Once the OAuth stuff is done, we can implement concert listnings.
      • yvanzo: yes indeed. I'm trying to tell everyone that we're not working on this soon.
      • lucifer
yvanzo: i think the way we will do it is, allow users to set an area for themselves but then let them choose an arbitrary area to view events from on the relevant pages itself.
      • mayhem
and everyone else wants to discuss the finer points of what we're not working on.
      • eulerbutcooler[m
aerozol: Hey i was working on that new display of links issue and i wanted to ask if you have any mockups for the mobile view because there's a lot of data to display and i could use some inspiration. Thanks!
      • aerozol[m]
The finer points of why MB areas aren’t particularly relevant to LB events
