And thanks to temporary reo mayhem (IRC)

Thanks mayhem (IRC)
We missed having a topic where we help reosarevok (IRC) buy furniture :(

lucifer: Ok, if I got it correctly, if someone is serious about contributing code, then it’s probably possible to have a basic LB implementation for user’s area soon, but I would completely understand if you prefer not because that would also make OAuth transition more complicated.
yvanzo guesses that it would be the proper reason for blocking (or not) the feature for now.
aerozol[m]
yvanzo: Pretty much, whether it will make life difficult. But it is a big consideration imo if we will allow additional areas as well, which means we have to do something in LB anyway. I live in Wellington, but I want to know about shows that aren’t just in Wellington. I can imagine this will be very common in Europe where there are areas in MB that are minutes from other areas (e.g. a town outside a city where the concerts happen)
The cool thing is that areas are pretty flexible as-is, so it’s possible to set city or area or country, and all the events correspond. Pretty cool how everything fits together!
(but no rush except for my want to see events for myself)
yvanzo
Maybe there is no need for multiple areas to show info about shows in other places on user’s request.
aerozol[m]
?
yvanzo
Never mind, I don’t even know how LB is showing such info.
aerozol[m]
Nothing yet afaik! For my use case we could use OAuth/one area and I would broaden my area to the whole of NZ, but that would be a whole South Island of events I can’t get to
Anyway, it’s a good problem to have
rdswift
Personally, I suspect that the whole subscriptions thing will be separate from the oAuth stuff. But as mayhem says, not on the short list of things to do.
aerozol[m]
rdswift: subscriptions is a good way to put it
rdswift
That's the way I view it. That way it can be (easily) expanded to include artists as well as areas.
aerozol[m]
At this stage (e.g. what’s in the tickets) it would automate the artist aspect, e.g. if you’ve listened to an artist X times and they have an upcoming concert in X area/s, it would be shown in your feed
lucifer: Since we need to transition to react everywhere, so we need to also migrate the response here also file. Since this is a separate flask application, how do I get global props here ?
lucifer
ansh: afk atm will check and let you know
ansh
Okay
aerozol[m]
Am I blind - or is it not possible to set LB tickets to blocked?
If anyone cares: Ticket made for pulling OAuth events in to LB, the other tickets marked as dependencies (can’t figure out blocked so that’ll do): https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/LB-1549
BrainzBot
LB-1549: Pull MeB user area (OAuth)

mayhem: Don’t know if this is on your radar, the ‘living wage for musicians act’? Just read this takedown by our friendo Glenn, pretty interesting: https://www.furia.com/page.cgi?type=log&id=481
mayhem
saved for reading later. thanks.
lucifer: you said you created mac builds for mnslib, yes? Can you upload those soon, I really want to let the world know that we want through all that trouble.

Keep your palm and your face ready for action/interaction, is my impression :)

yvanzo: I think I just wasn't able to use any of the existing macros (because it required different steps or dependencies). I'm sure it could be improved though
yvanzo
No problem, just asking in case I was missing something.

aerozol[m]: this "Make Streaming Pay" thing is sounding dumber than shit.

even more money collected from users would go to absolutely nothing, just like the other government systems setup for the ostensible purpose of paying artists.

ansh: this is how global props are injected in the main app, https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-serv... . you can inject props similarly into the api compat app which is created a few lines below in the same file.
mayhem: yes, i can do that tomorrow. please remind me if i forget again.
