lol at Crowdstrike, amazing scenes. On a Friday too.

this is what you get for relying on M$: https://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2024/...
      • and remember, the cloud is just someone else's computer.

<05rustynova> My work is also impacted today. So it's chill day here~
      • atj[m]
Well for once it's not actually an MS issue. I've been forced to install CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor on quite a few Linux boxes. I suspect a bad update would have a similar impact.
      • Somewhat ironic that CS have now caused more damage than their software would ever have prevented. The C-suite must be having fun waiting for the markets to open.

MBS-6741: Include subdivision and country in the webservice when returning an area https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-6741
      • reosarevok[m]
But I understand for search we're still not at the point where we can make equivalent improvements?
      • yvanzo[m]
reosarevok: Do you remember the discussion from last year you mentioned in comment?
      • Indeed, for search we are still stuck with indexer updates for now.
      • reosarevok[m]
IIRC it was basically that I was thinking originally to do it as an include, but bitmap suggested that he thought it would actually make sense to always return this unless we see a big performance hit - I don't think it was a lot deeper than that
      • yvanzo[m]
So the expected impact in performance has to be calculated.
      • reosarevok[m]
        Yeah
      • yvanzo[m]
The table area_containment still has to be queried recursively (and area for each parent).
      • reosarevok[m]
Hmm. Does it need recursive querying?

Yeah, that should probably work easily enough

      • relaxo[m]
reosarevok will it be upward/parent or downward/child recursive? The latter would help me. It will enable area search for FestivalGuide.
      • reosarevok[m]
It's not area search right now, it's just that when we show what is the area for an artist or something, we'll also show the parent areas up to the country

security folks i follow on social media have been complaining about crowdstrike for a while, apparently it doesn't just have a kernel driver but also injects code into applications, and is a big source of confusing "there's no way that could happen" crashes in applications :/
