reosarevok: hi! had some questions about 78rpm tracks. would https://archive.org/details/3-arturo-toscanini-ro… count as an album and the 7 "tracks" as recordings?
      • 2025-08-27 23952, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
        I don't see why it wouldn't :)
      • 2025-08-27 23953, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
i am unsure if this is one track divided into 7 parts or 7 tracks.
      • 2025-08-27 23912, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
        i see makes sense
      • 2025-08-27 23948, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
I mean, track boundaries can be unclear for vinyl
      • 2025-08-27 23910, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
But there's no way it's 1 track, since it has 2 sides :)
      • 2025-08-27 23914, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
The least it could be is 2
      • 2025-08-27 23931, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
The least that could make sense in this case is 4 (3 on side 1, the full work as one track on side 2)
      • 2025-08-27 23909, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
got it. yes the metadata is not very good for this item.
      • 2025-08-27 23909, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
That's not uncommon for vinyl :) Honestly, vinyl usually requires some degree of user decision at least for classical
      • 2025-08-27 23929, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
In this case, since the ripper at the Archive has made a decision for you, you might as well follow it IMO 😅

      • 2025-08-27 23901, 2025

      • monkey[m]
m.amanullah7: Yes, I pushed a fix for it but it needs to be deployed. You can try on the beta website though
      • 2025-08-27 23948, 2025

      • mamanullah7[m]

<reosarevok[m]> "But there's no way it's 1 track,..." <- Single-side vinyls exist, perfectly flat on the B side, I saw one once, don't remember what it was, but I guess there are rare anyway ;)
      • 2025-08-27 23914, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
Fair, I used to have a couple which were one side music, one side artwork
      • 2025-08-27 23922, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
Not the case here though :)
      • 2025-08-27 23930, 2025

      • zas[m]
Even rarer -> vinyls with data on them (in 80s we had data on cassettes, and if I remember correctly there were same thing on vinyl)

Vinyl with one side etched (by hand or lasercut or w/e) is a thing too, since you can 'press' the etching as usual (as I understand it). There's an old EP I want to re-issue that is a very annoying length for vinyl, I've always thought about doing am etched single-sided 10". But it feels like such a waste!
      • 2025-08-27 23900, 2025

      • zas[m]
aerozol[m]: Well, it only needs a master for one side, and pressing cost is the same, so a waste but prolly at lower cost
      • 2025-08-27 23915, 2025

      • aerozol[m]
Hmm I imagine the etched side would still have a master? To 'press' the etching
      • 2025-08-27 23902, 2025

      • kellnerd[m]
Hmm, there seem to be no vinyl data discs on MB yet, those which also contain music/soundtrack would be within scope 😛

      • aerozol[m]
Thanks for your patience reosarevok, the 'edit source' display looks nice. I wonder if it would be useful to visually split it out from what the edit *does* a bit more, since it's secondary. Something like:

aerozol: it feels the last might make the header too crowded but I do like the two first ones personally quite a bit
      • 2025-08-27 23918, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
        I'll look into it

      • 2025-08-27 23959, 2025

      • aerozol[m]
Yeah I quite like the first, looking back! My only concern is that it could make the edit screen messier rather than tidier, when there's heaps on there, but if it's a similar colour to the header we could be safe

      • reosarevok[m]
I'm not sure what's a magic way to make the color similar but lighter, is there a CSS trick for this? :)
      • 2025-08-27 23934, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
Or do we need to pick them by hand?
      • 2025-08-27 23922, 2025

      • aerozol[m]
Been a loooong time since I've mucked with CSS, but I was always a dirty hacker with it... I imagine something like have it in the same div as the header but with a X% opacity white on the new div, so it shines through. Maybe ask monkey haha

reosarevok: Do you use SASS or any other preprocessor?
      • 2025-08-27 23914, 2025

      • reosarevok[m]
        Less
      • 2025-08-27 23945, 2025

      • monkey[m]
Easiest would probably be less color functions then: https://lesscss.org/functions/#color-operations-l…
      • 2025-08-27 23913, 2025

      • monkey[m]
Otherwise, yes, a div with 50% transparent white background would probably work as well

lucifer: Hello! I'd like to deploy a new version of LB today, I was wandering if there was any pre- or post-processing steps required, considering we are adding a user stat.

      • monkey[m]
        Just update all containers?
      • 2025-08-27 23931, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
monkey: just the stats cron job needs to be updated to request the new stats and then let me know and i'll update the spark cluster
      • 2025-08-27 23953, 2025

      • monkey[m]
So to be clear, just update the cron container?

which stats are you deploying? i think the cron job is not requesting any new ones atm.

      • 2025-08-27 23914, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
sure. need to add a line like https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-server… for genre activity stats.
      • 2025-08-27 23918, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
        i can do that.
      • 2025-08-27 23941, 2025

      • monkey[m]
Yes please, I will follow the PR so that I have a better idea for next time
      • 2025-08-27 23943, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
as for containers, you need to update cron, web and spark reader + spark cluster
      • 2025-08-27 23913, 2025

      • monkey[m] makes a note
      • 2025-08-27 23953, 2025

      • monkey[m]
If I may suggest, it would be best to merge these new features in a feature branch until we are 100% ready to deploy them, rather than in the master branch which could prevent releasing a new version
      • 2025-08-27 23927, 2025

      • lucifer[m]
makes sense. i think the feature is/was ready to release but forgot to actually do the release after merging.
