<mayhem[m]> "I wonder how many tracks have an..." <- [here's](https://youtube.com/watch?v=isXoiYfoD… an example of a track that could plausibly cross a set of turntables and "evolves" BPM over time (from your LB mapper's "favorite" artist ;])

oh, from my favorite pain-in-the-ass artist at that!!

yep, that's what i meant lol

and i know for a fact that this artist does DJ sets of his own & others' music decently frequently (mostly in jp of course)

that's annoying, why am I stquincitatus and not MonkeyPython here

I mean I am, but on irc it's stquinicitatus?? 🤔

<julian45[m]> "[here's](https://youtube.com/..." <- so, it the tempo progression linear or will we need to fit some polynomial to cover this case?
2025-10-28 30132, 2025
julian45[m]
good question 🤔
2025-10-28 30158, 2025
LupinIII
but matric is MonkeyPython[m] in irc 🤔

julian45[m]
i think i might have to get up in there and try to tag bpms at specific measures to see if, from "start" to "finish" of the tempo progression, the bpm increase is linear or not
2025-10-28 30126, 2025
julian45[m]
oh and i forgot there's a substantial slowdown in that track too! (cf. 3:30 on) and it's not like it's halving previous tempo or even the starting tempo of the song
2025-10-28 30132, 2025
mayhem[m]
julian45[m]: I was only half serious. :) but I could see the case for supporting linear progressions.

2025-10-28 30121, 2025
julian45[m]
and if nonlinear over a larger period, one could simply try their best to break it down into smaller linear progressions i guess?

I'm a first time matrix user, is it possible to create a topic BPM and move all messages about that subject to that topic?
2025-10-28 30130, 2025
julian45[m]
not really, there's technically "threading" but for many clients it just shows as regular old replies
2025-10-28 30139, 2025
Jade[m]
Not really, you can't move messages

maybe a convo thread could be started on our discourse instance where that sort of categorizing is much easier? that would also sort of invite input from users who don't use matrix/irc/discord to interact with metabrainz and its projects
2025-10-28 30150, 2025
Jade[m]
Yeah, discourse is probably the right place for that kind of longterm/longform communication
* complete public? (I'd prefer not to have everything in the wide open at the moment)
2025-10-28 30153, 2025
julian45[m]
Evelynne[m]: yeah afaik; if there's a way to create private discussions/categories i'm not aware of it
2025-10-28 30109, 2025
Jade[m]
I mean this room is public too, if a bit less searchable
2025-10-28 30153, 2025
Evelynne[m]
I have already explored the discourse
2025-10-28 30120, 2025
julian45[m]
a private discussion room with just a few folks (members can be added/removed over time) is a thing in matrix but as a project/group of projects we generally prefer to tend towards open convos when possible so we don't use them often

(e.g., for cybersecurity discussions that can't be public)
