alastairp: I know rejigging ‘popular reviews’ has been mentioned before - this probably shouldn’t show up in there: https://critiquebrainz.org/review/dac3e27b-cebb...
      • If it’s not too tricky it would be nice to take out anything that’s got more downvotes than upvotes? For now

[metabrainz.org] 14amCap1712 merged pull request #388 (03master…master): Add chosen pronoun for CatQuest https://github.com/metabrainz/metabrainz.org/pu...
      • ansh
lucifer: I don't think we have an option to update the username once the account has been created.
      • lucifer
        ansh: in CB or MB?
      • ansh
        MB
      • lucifer
its possible by sending an email request to support@metabrainz.org. reosarevok then updates it manually in MB db
      • ansh
        Oh okay
      • Also, while setting up meb.org, I encountered an error after running `./develop.sh manage init_db --create-db`
      • dseomn has quit
      • yvanzo
        O’Moin
      • lucifer
ansh: try running ./develop.sh up first
      • reosarevok
lucifer: for what it's worth, we actually have an admin page for it so I don't have to wrangle the DB directly, but yeah ansh, basically just let me know if needed :)
      • dseomn joined the channel
      • CatQuest
        aerozol: hehI agree with ivandosky
      • Can’t see “Add Annotation”? … Ditto Merge … The menu bar up there feels “less involved” with the whole page due to that colour border.
      • (and when we agree it's lookout!)
      • :D
      • aerozol
Well, I forgot to include those in the mockup he looked at :p
      • CatQuest
        also jesus2099:
      • I would prefer not these big buttons in the header, I don’t like them very much
      • aerozol
But I will move very carefully with it.
      • CatQuest
        sorry 🤷 but true
      • lucifer
        reosarevok: yes makes sense.
      • ansh: i added the username copy change to LB and can do the same for CB if it helps.
      • alastairp: tables rebuilt, it was a config issue. but the canonical data bug still exists.
      • aerozol
With the big calls to action for new people, like the edit button, I'm happy to do it in another way if you can think of anything you would like CatQuest. But I think it's important to have it stand out in some way (the target audience for those isn't existing users, it's too make it very tempting for people to start contributing)
      • Not as nice for seasoned contributors I know. All we need is a little button anywhere
      • alastairp
        thanks lucifer
      • yeah, CB username change sounds like a good idea too
      • CatQuest
"I’m not someone who uses MusicBrainz to find and buy popular music, which is why I’d want to turn off the listens and rating as this is just a waste of screen space for me. (But I do understand why other people would want this). I am here for the database and its music links."
      • this holds true for me too
      • aerozol: honstly those buttons are nothing ot me i'll probbly ue script to remove thme and rely on userscript to add back edit links in the tabs under the username ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
      • aerozol
I don't know about the ratings column either to be honest!
      • The playcount one gives some pretty handy information I think
      • Happy to rearrange as wanted if you want to pop an order that would suit you on the ticket/have some hidden by default. Then we can compare
      • CatQuest
also, I mean it might be my neurodiverse self, but big buttons that say "EDIT THIS" (and these buttons are not they are big buttons with ignorable ambiguous ICONS) don't really compell me to "sign up and start editing" my first thoguht is "if I click this im ight break something" and "if this iste will let randos edit I will probably have to lurk before signing up" and eventually i might if I use that site click it only t ofind that i "ne
      • ed to sign up" i probably woldn't bother to.
      • if it was "sign up to edit" text somewhere I guess. but
      • the playcount info is *interesting* but
      • i don't really care while EDITING
      • mb is for EDITING
      • lb is for LISTENING
      • reosarevok
Wu Tang is for the children
      • reosarevok hides
      • CatQuest
so i'd welcome isntead links to lb with "listen on lb" and "critique on CB" etc
      • reosarevok: ???
      • reosarevok
CatQuest: the point is we're trying to get all the systems more intertwined :)
      • CatQuest
        yes!
      • so i want links
      • haing userscripts that create a "listen to this on lb" wich monkey made. very ool
      • cool*
      • reosarevok
I would be annoyed if the editing forms started getting all sorts of LB bits or CB bits
      • But display bits are for display :)
      • CatQuest
but keep the actual listen data and BP *OFF* mb please
      • yes exactly
      • I also think the ratings coloum should be like it is currently. (rightmost)
      • reosarevok
Since it's become clear we're not going to have two sites, one to navigate and one to edit, then it makes sense to have the editing forms for editing but the display pages for pretty data access
      • I think the columns should just be configurable
      • So, have listens and ratings on by default, just let people turn them off
      • CatQuest
i'm not sure we're talking about the sme thing reo
      • yes that
      • have thme turn-off-able
      • reosarevok
yvanzo wanted to make columns configurable too IIRC, so it's not a new idea anyway :)
      • CatQuest
it's been talked about for ages
      • reosarevok
Sure, but maybe it's easier to get it done while also redesigning?
      • One can hope :D
      • CatQuest
        sure
      • I also agree with having per-user settings not per-browser
      • per-browser is a pita becase the secondyou use some other browser you end up using 10 minutes ot configure your shit
      • reosarevok
aerozol: I mostly like the redesign images, but I'm sure I'll find some small issues somewhere still. I think the "this doesn't do much for members of bands" criticism is fair - although it's no different from current MB
      • Current MB shows standalone recordings if there are no RGs - maybe we could also show some relationships if there's no recordings
      • CatQuest
        I like that idea
      • i laos like the idea of having live above compilation
      • idk about ep before singles
      • but i belive compilations should go last
      • reosarevok
aerozol: I'm not sure how this figma works - do I need to create an account to be able to like zoom in?
      • CatQuest
but i do find it annoying to split up things that are live+ep away from other ep's forexample
      • yeai can remember it's kidna flimsy
      • and right now that computer is broken so i cna't really use it
      • and getting it fixed will *probably* hav to wait until much after my own "fixing"
      • aerozol
The MB artist page is for displaying music data imo. Editing that data needs to also be excellent but I don't know if that's the same thing
      • If an album is popular or not is music data just as much as a release date is
      • reosarevok
aerozol: agreed, although I can see the point of making it configurable so that people who only want to see the data to find out if they need to edit it can remove the rest from view :)
      • CatQuest
        and that's *interesting* data indeed
      • but, yea what reo said
      • i'd love aoggle
      • a toggle
      • that remembers
      • aerozol
reosarevok: ctrl and scroll I think to zoom?
      • CatQuest
so i can tunr it off/on
      • reosarevok
That'd be ideal - standard visitors see all the cool data about listens, ratings, reviews, while hardcore editors only see "THIS LOOKS BAD"
      • aerozol: oh! Unintuitive! :) I'll try later
      • CatQuest
        exactly what reo said!
      • aerozol
Oh man I want all of that configurable so bad! Really frees us up to put in fun stuff that not everybody needs to be burdened with
      • reosarevok
I think that should be possible, we just need to talk about how to make it happen
      • CatQuest
this is why i ckeep talknig about "differnt views" and "customisable" for "viewers" (new users), "editors" and "hardcore users"
      • reosarevok
I mean, "possible" is not the same as "easy" :p
      • But I think it's worth the effort
      • CatQuest
sothat supersuers liek these who add whatever can, there is a differnt view need between diffrnt users that edit too
      • lucifer
alastairp, Pratha-Fish: i am building the tables again to debug so removed 1) the part to swap into prod and 2) delete duplicate queries. actual tables being used should by various lookups should be unaffected but if something seems wrong, let me know.
      • aerozol
We're on the same page there CatQuest, I've put in lots of 'dream' configurable bits!
      • reosarevok
aerozol: but what about 'death' configurable bits? or 'delirium'?
      • reosarevok hides and goes have breakfast
      • alastairp
        groan
      • reosarevok: are you watching it?
      • aerozol
I gotta stop being on my phone and chill, but I think I did some things for band members that maybe isn't obvious reosarevok! I'll try catch up on messages tomorrow
      • alastairp
bye aerozol! (btw, thanks for the comments on CB reviewing!)
      • reosarevok
alastairp: I watched it, it's neat - I read the comics so long ago I didn't remember more than "they're pretty good" though, so I didn't have any specific expectations
      • CatQuest
        reosarevok 1+ for sandman refrence
      • I want desire and despair too!
      • reosarevok
I mean, I hope the configurable bits are not despair ones
      • alastairp
I last read the comics only 4-5 years ago, so some bits are still fresh
      • CatQuest
        and BRIAN BLESSED!
      • ()I mean destruction
      • reosarevok
For that I just need to look at Mozart's recordings tab anyway
      • CatQuest
        indeed :D
      • i read one of the spinnof comics focusing more on death and the main character. and ther was one with depair meeting edgar allen poe and it was so.. sweet and theywhere woobie but it was still you know. it was pretty hilarious/hartwarming/sad
      • death as the main*
      • ansh
lucifer: Yes, it would be a great idea.
      • lucifer
        👍,will do
      • CatQuest
anyway my biggest issue with BIG ICONS at the top is tht it necssitates tht the banner header whatever als oeats up more space. i don't want that. i want to ge to the 2meat" of the page asap

        🎉
      • reosarevok
Freso, aerozol, alastairp: I understand us marking someone as a spammer in MB currently has no effect on whether they can keep using CB, right?
      • alastairp
does marking someone a spammer prevent them from oauth-logging in to other sites?
      • until they need to log in to MB again to perform an auth flow, they'll still be able to log into CB
      • and user sessions on CB are long I think - 1 year?
      • reosarevok
IIRC we log them out of MB
      • ... if we implemented that?
      • reosarevok checks
      • Yes, we do
      • But that probably doesn't log them out of oauth sites?
      • alastairp
right, but that won't forcefully log them out of CB, unless we add a job to CB to verify accounts
      • correct
      • reosarevok
As such, I could mark these spammers as spammers, but that wouldn't help CB (until, I guess, a year from now)
      • (well, *up to* a year)
      • alastairp
        yeah
      • reosarevok
Is there a way for a CB admin to remove or block a CB account directly inside CB?
      • Or is it just about hiding reviews?
      • alastairp
yeah, I was just about to suggest that
      • reosarevok
Until we have MeB accounts, I guess we could say "CB spammer gets blocked in CB, and reported to MB so we mark them too"
      • alastairp
I'd need to look into it, but if we could have a link in MB admin that links directly to CB admin, which has an "expire session" button
      • Freso
We don’t have a way to link directly from MB to CB at all, right now. :(
      • reosarevok
Oh, so it has "expire session" but unless they get blocked in MB *before* they could just re-sign in?
