jasje: Was just following up our meeting to-do list, turns out there are already links to Figma, in the design-system, but I liked that you included logos etc. Do you want to link me your figma that had all that stuff, and I’ll incorporate it into the linked ones?

Jasje: That’s excellent, that’s pretty much what we’re aiming for with the MB and LB figma’s as well, but as you can tell it’s tricky to keep everything updated when you have a lot of pages

But what you’ve done is excellent

and have a link to where all the conversation happened

The only issue is not being able to have a lot of editors without paying… and it’s expensive too

So people will have to clone stuff

given that most contributors are students, students get free premium accounts

but otherwise, money would be spent

thats why we should keep a link in each page that leads to another contributors figma

Ohh that’s how you managed to invite me to edit that other one! Maybe I can hassle MeB to pay for an account but it really is $$$, I don’t know if it’s worth it

I believe without a paid account you can only have 1 or two figma’s that other can edit (I’ve hit this limit)

Having a central figma’s all good, as long as someone updates it, if that person goes AWOL we can just clone the figma (I love that feature)

Yeah for sure, just quite a high monthly cost. Let’s try get away without it for a bit longer...

i think no of invites is unlimiteed for paid figma

the circles look bland to me. The listen cards have so much going on and on the other hand there are the circles

At this stage in the design discussion it’s more about the functionality. If we know that the function works - e.g. it’s a good way to display information, it makes sense, etc - then we can make it more interesting visually afterwards

From a the user experience perspective

it doesn't serve the exact purpose i was thinking, let me elaborate

so lets say i open up the similar listens tab

firstly i want to confirm that there isn't going to be timestamp afaik

One thing I like about not messing with the core feed ‘list’ style is that we can potentially add more feed tabs! And it’s very inviting for me to side swipe through them and see what comes up. If every one has a unique style and cards and so on it becomes too confusing to do that, I have to stop and re-examine each tab

Why are we using top recordings?

to get the most listened recordings for that day

Yeah, just a basic feed of what they’ve listened to. A few reasons:

If a similar user is listening to some niche music/a discovery unique to them, I’m not sure we want to bury it under what’s most popular. We kind of already have that function in fresh releases, and global stats and so on. I think the feed should be a ‘feed’

Besides that I think it’s getting complicated. Grab top 10 similar users > aggregate their listens (I don’t know how likely it is that they’re listening to the same albums anyway?) based on x recent timeframe > group them in some way where we can see who’s listened to what and how much but also total listens...

I don’t think similar users accounts for activity? So if a lot of them are inactive it might be an empty feed? I think it’s cool to make this a super powerful function, but I think it would make life easier for you to start with the basic

I hear you, I’m just thinking of potential problems. And a lot are coming to mind! I also think you are underestimating how useful the ‘boring’ version of this is to a lot of people ;)

Here’s a thought - how about we start with a really simple version of the similar users feed. And then you use the ‘Explore’ section (have to see how this looks on mobile…) to make the crazy powerful/precise tool you’re imagining, and just make it live there. That’s why I put a beta section into the website Explore mockup, but we haven’t used it yet.

oh yeah i was thinking of having a beta tag for the app too

LB has so much potential for crazy stuff, there’s no reason why we can’t do it all. And why it couldn’t eventually wrap into the main pages if it turns out it works great

last time i built yim, some part of it was released midway

since alot of the main pages of website are to be ported to the app

Hey btw jasje_, shall I replace the png logo collection with svgs in the figma, or are the pngs more useful in some cases?

I was thing of having a small [beta] tag that depicts it is under active development

svgs work good but i think list time i faced some problems with one of them, ill check and delete if they are unnecessary

If the app ends up having an Explore section like the website does/will, it will be a perfect sandbox for you

i can't explain why but you should keep in mind that any other contributor who checks out these figmas

will probably have difficulties handling components

I’ve found them useful, but sure thing. You’re going to run into trouble when you need to update a search icon across 20+ mockups though :P

Yeah, you can just update the original asset, and everything changes. BUT you are right that it can be confusing.

You can right click components and then click ‘detach instance’ to just make it a regular editable thing
