The existing search infrastructure is using ElasticSearch, while other MetaBrainz projects use SOLR, hence the project to move to SOLR so that we can better use resources.

Yes I think looking into the musicbrainz search would be a good starting point, but I hear it's very complex, and I can't help you on that not knowing it myself
If I donot know SOLR would you recommend to pick another project (as you might want someone experienced in it) Or should I give it a shot?

I think it's a very complex subject, and not easy to approach. If you have some knowledge of search indexing I think it could be worth a try, but without it I think it's too hard to approach it.
akshaaatt: let me fish that out. We have one main API call with most of the data, and I think the listening stats and CB reviews are separate calls (might not be relevant for you just yet)
