monkey akashgp09[m] i was making notification dropdown. Which one do you think is better, 1. dropdown with 5 notifications and `see all notifications` redirect link. 2. dropdown with infinite scroller
akashgp09[m]
the second one sounds good to me.
most of the social media applications follow the infinite scrolling design.
prabaaaaal
yeah even I am inclined towards that
won't have to make a notifications page if there's an infinite scroller :P
CatQuest
NO INFINITE SCROLLING
I *hate* that
especially in things like ,enues wtf
dropdown with infinite scrolling? wat
honestly just having a "see notifications" is fine. or how it works on discourse
wich is guess is 1

I'd also prefer to have a page, personally - infinite scrolling only works IMO on stuff like Facebook because they expect you to be there all the time
Right now I only visit FB like once a week or so and the notifications dropdown is just a huge mess every time without a good way to just see them all comfortably
monkey
I could see the use of having both, to be honest.
To take the example of Facebook as well, there's a notification window with infitie scroll, but also a button to "see all" that redirects to a full page (which by the way also has infinite scrolling rather than pagination)
I'm not attached to the infinite scrolling but I think if there is an easy was to access a full page it's not a bad idea to have it, it usually allows to have a quicker look
The Youtube notification tray only shows the 8 most recent notifications, and that's that.
reosarevok
Yeah, I'm certainly ok with having both if you're willing to maintain both
prabaaaaal
uhhuh
yeah we can have both of them :))
monkey
I would say start with showing the last 10 notifications and a "see all" button, and then move on to implementing an infinite scroll.

CatQuest
anyway what is this for anyway? like I expect bb notifications to be far between? or do you mean like for revisions/editmail? because those i except to email me, and then to have a "view notifications" page like on mb
infact I'd focus moe on the emailing thing that onsite notifications
tho onsite notification is cool
monkey
Both go together in the end; but having a way to display the notifications will be helpful for development at first (where email can be harder to test)
CatQuest
that's true
(I remember initally messages where not mailed on mb)
(øike in 2005)
like*
reosarevok
We're still hoping to allow that in MB too, FWIW
Since many people don't want (or use, really) email anymore

CatQuest
weirdos :P
reosarevok
I think a lot of young people barely know how to use email
monkey
E-what?
reosarevok
And I mean, for some people the internet is basically apps on their phone, for most of their day :)
CatQuest
yeesh
I read somewhere that milleials actually have to educate the teens abotu the same thig they had to educate theri parents/grandparents on. becasue teens today don't actually have a concept of things like "directory structure" etc
