I merged the Picard Qt6 changes finally. And with this I broke my own workflow of always running Picard from source as now plugins are all broken. Need to switch to the stable release for my own tagging for now :D
outsidecontext, zas: What was the idea of “cover art processing” for Picard? (with just a few more words to get a rough idea)
outsidecontext
yvanzo: options like automatically resizing images or even changing image format
Also it touches the area of generally more options for images, like not overwriting images with smaller ones, min. and max. sizes, separate options for embedded images and files etc.
yvanzo
Thanks, that’s more linting then?
(I was confused because tracklist recognition is a kind of cover art processing too)
outsidecontext
sorry, I don't get the linting part
yvanzo
-linting +processing to look good
(with “good” following user’s preferences)

monkey: What was the GSoC idea about plugin for BookBrainz? I can neither hear nor read it from the session video.

akshaaatt: I added a paragraph with the list of ideas to summit notes. However, there seems to be some redundancies/contradictions in the above lists/paragraphs.
akshaaatt
Thanks a lot for adding that yvanzo!
I think we should rephrase a bit and say that we do not aim to run a program of our own yet. But we do intend to start the gsoc program earlier than before and have our ideas page out. Maybe also get a social media post out when gsoc is announced and we have updated the page (let's say late dec or jan)

monkey: For LB-1264, do I just add the special purpose artist in an array, or filter them from the database? I believe they're mostly static
ansh: Not sure if I understand everything of your question, but I think being able to filter Various Artist releases out is ideal. I'd say we want to hide them by default on the user's personal page but show them by default on the "all releases" pages
ansh
I mean that since there are 11 special purpose artists, so for every page, should I fetch them from the database or should I manually define them in an array form?
yvanzo: The GSoC idea for BookBrainz was a plugin for Calibre, an open source Ebook reader. There was once such a project: https://github.com/bookbrainz/CaliBBre

Thx
Ah, I see ansh, thanks for the explanation. I was thinking about VA only.
So solution 1 is to load all special purpose artists but put them in a separate array to be able to filter them out, and option 2 is to not load them at all for the user's personal releases page. Does that sound right?
IMO a solution with more flexibility is preferable, which in this case probably means option 1: loading special purpose artist releases but hiding them by default when on the user's personal page (shown by default on the 'all releases" page). Does that make sense?
aerozol
monkey: I'm not sure it makes sense to have the toggle turn itself on and off between both views?
ApeKattQuest
the issue is that there realy *shouldn't* be 11 SPA
aerozol
Sorry, I'm just about to go to sleep, but that caught my eye 😛
monkey
Heh hi aerozol !
ApeKattQuest
zzzz
monkey
OK, then maybe hidden by default on both then. But does it make sense to load them in that case?
aerozol
Apart from that no real preference here.
What does not loading them do? Make it so we can't toggle them on?
monkey
Yes
Or we would have to load them separately, which would be slightly trickier code-wise but doable.
aerozol
Maybe I'm conflating compilations with when someone has accidentally played a *track* credited to 'various artists'? Because I don't think I get any VA compilations in my 'for you' page
I don't mind if we don't load weird stuff, but I do like seeing fresh VA releases
I got to sleep though! I'll leave it in your capable hands
monkey
Well, see LB-1264 . I think filtered out by default is the right option

Hi all!
Cheers to another productive week.
Almost done with the bot. All the data is in, finding and posting differences is all that's left.
Fetched ~117k+ rows from Wikidata, so I think we'll have a ton of new ones incoming on the musicbrainz database :D
Ideally, the whole project should've been wrapped up by 7th, but I'm risking a couple of days extra to get the project to a proper working state before starting a blog for the final submission 🫠
The deadlines are stressful, but also fun. Gonna take the most relaxing break known to mankind once this project finishes 💀

Then there's aerozol:

Been busy, but not with MeB stuff - Lucy and Bean are sick and I’ve just moved into a new co-working space.
I managed to squeeze in doing some more summit blog notes, and posting that everywhere
