Btw Spotify recently released their push notification regarding their wrap
lucifer I would like to add push notifications facility to the app soon because that's the best way for us to engage with our users and notify them about stuff
I am pretty familiar with how to do that using cloud messaging and that works perfect for such cases. Your takes on this lucifer?
ruaok
alastairp: you about?
alastairp
hi, I'm here
ruaok
sweet, let's chat then.
lucifer
akshat: i am not in favour of adding cloud messaging fwiw. i think the only providers are firebase or aws. we don't want to use either.
ruaok
I've had a look at my items and have worked out the SQL query or at least the structure of it, for each of the 4 playlists on my list.
I can delivery everything on the last within 2 weeks, I'd say. 3 on the outside.
akshat
Agreed lucifer. Let me look for some open sourced alternatives for this then just as a normal search when I'm free
ruaok
maybe should try english.
monkey
Can you rephrase that please ruaok I didn"t get that
lucifer
sounds godd, akshat
monkey
Lol
ruaok
I can deliver everything on the list within 2 weeks, I'd say. 3 on the outside.
akshat
Again, we don't want to use firebase because FDroid doesn't allow for it, right. Is that the only reason or there's more lucifer
ruaok
two minor typos, total gibberish, noice Mr. Kaye.
alastairp
ruaok: these are very similar to last year's queries, right? so there shouldn't be anything unexpected?
lucifer
akshat: f-droid is one, but in general we try to stay away from cloud products.
ruaok
well, there are two brand new ones and I wasn't super happy with approach from last year. I've worked out a new one that should be faster.
but this is all bread-and-butter stuff I've been doing for months, so really not hard.
and it dovetails into troi work, so I'm a happy camper. I just need to keep BS at bay.
alastairp
great
this week I'll get the genre dumps processed again to discuss with reosarevok
ruaok
I realized that we never defined what we'd do with the genres, once we had them.
alastairp
although I notice that the item on this list says "Adding more genres for some genre thing"
akshat
Okaaay!
alastairp
yeah, there it is
ruaok
if we did, that didn't make it into the doc.
monkey
Most listened-to genres this year?
lucifer
afaik we dind't discuss what to do with genres
ruaok
your most listened to genres of the year?
monkey
As tags, I would guess, which can link to MB tags pages
alastairp
right. "your top genres"
lucifer
your top genres sounds good.
ruaok
yea, but lets avoid the tag-clouds.
monkey
As a list of tags*
ruaok
nothing but drama.
alastairp
monkey: yeah, the idea is to add them as tags, then work out how many of them should be promoted to real genres
lucifer
it could be a playlist! random playlist of songs of this genre?
ruaok
could be iffy, lucifer .
but shouln't be hard to knock out in troi.
monkey
I think we should just have a few tags for this year in music, and focus on music discovery with genres as a separate feature. Needs a better plan
alastairp
agreed monkey
ruaok
seems good.
lucifer
sounds good
monkey
To rephrase, I think "random playlist of genre X" might not make us look good
ruaok
I'm very eager to play with more genres, I might see what comes out. if another playlist falls out its easy to include.
monkey: agreed.
could be chaotic-haphazard.
alastairp
what's necessary for computing top tags/genres?
is this an sql query, or a spark job?
ruaok
sql
alastairp
and so do we need to push tags from MB to spark?
OK, great
monkey
That's neat
alastairp
recording mbid -> tag -> groupby/count
ruaok
with a connection to MB and LB, gaga can knock that out without problem
alastairp
that crosses a database though
ruaok
yeah, whatevs. nothing new.
alastairp
sweet
lucifer
i think mb probably has a json dump or tags?
*for
ruaok
lucifer: naw, mb-docker is easier.
monkey
PSA: 10minutes left before meeting time
lucifer
if gaga can do that makes it simpler.
ruaok
bono has all that, gaga even has realer time access.
akshat
I think showing a list of songs which the user might like would also be great in addition to the playlist
Didn't get that akshat. In my mind, showing a list of songs ~= playlist…
alastairp
akshat: in the context of the genres, it's probably better to show top tracks of the user in that genre, rather than additional new songs
lucifer
i think should be simple to implement at least for one off.
alastairp
at least given the time constraints
akshat
Right
monkey
Ah, I misunderstood akshat Ignore me
lucifer
i have the dumps now to play with real data on michael. i'll probably get release color done this week.
similar users is already done, just need the pg table on lb side to store it. what else do i have
monkey
Is it similar users *this year* ?
lucifer
list of new releases will take some time to figure out from top artists 50. can tell on that once i look into it a bit more
monkey: yes
monkey
👍
ruaok
lucifer: I can help with that, not hard.
monkey
Yeah, that new releases from top 50 artists seemed more complexe
-e
ruaok
sounds very much like we'll deliver on what is in the doc, then. great. then, monkey and akshat given what's just been discussed how do you feel about the state of things?
lucifer
ruaok: nice :D
monkey
Just a matter of arranging all this nicely on a page :)
ruaok
doable, then?
akshat: thoughts?
akshat
Sounds great to me!
monkey
One think I'm not sure of is how to show the playlists, i.e. how do I know which playlist to show for which user?
lucifer
ah we forgot about LB in 2021 part
ZaphodBeeblebrox
Freso: can I go early I am making dinner and it'd be great if I could just paste before I start heating
:)
ruaok
or do we upload the lists to LB and link to them?
ZaphodBeeblebrox
Freso Freso Freso
monkey
I guess we can query for playlists created for userX between tiestamp A and timestamp B ?
ruaok
well, we'll do that anyway, but maybe just the link?
ZaphodBeeblebrox
(just to make sure you see this)
ruaok
that brings me to another topic.
some stuff may require temp tables.
and I fear that cruft could accummulate over time as we collect more years of stuff.
and going to create ourselves a maintenance nightmare for stuff that few people will read over the years.
seems like a bad plan to me.
but keeping historical records is... sooper cool.
what if we archived each report in an HTML frozen archive and stored those?
People up for reviews: ZaphodBeeblebrox, ruaok, akshat, yvanzo, monkey, zas, alastairp, bitmap, lucifer, reosarevok, Freso – anyone else who wants to give review, let me know ASAP!
