Yeah, to convert the ws/js calls for the widgets (they take a search query and not an MBID in the existing file, so)

Not anything terribly impressive due to this issue, but I've managed to kind of pare down the file to stuff I can re-appropriate

I did look at it over the weekend, but the jsonp thing wasn't really resolved until yesterday, which is where I was mostly stuck

what I'm not sure of still is where to like

well, you had all day today to make some progress, but there isn't any.

and there are a dozen things you could be working on.

styling some html.

writing some pages where people make widgets.

if you get stuck on something its your job to get help.

and my job to help you, but you need to ask for help first.

I am probably spending a little too much time poring over stuff, which is an issue I sometimes have

ok, what areas of the project are clear to you? what could you jump in and get some work done FAST?

the quickest thing I could do is probably build some of the basic web interfaces

at least the framework, if not the backend implementation

HTML and jquery if not the perl, basically

that sounds like a good approach.

I'll get started on that, then, and continue to spend a bits of time hacking away at this - I think I'm having trouble getting started, mostly, which is frustrating, and not good, but is sort of a typical issue I have

and its an easy problem to have if you don't know the language or all of the tools that are used.

ok, here are some thoughts on how to help you:

1. first, work on the html/jquery side of things.

2. also spend time thinking about the web service.

3. Don't implement something fancy to start with.

(for the ws/js stuff)

start with returning a static string of stuff for a web service call.

just return some data. something. anything.

then use your HTML work to somehow do something with the data.

maybe your ws/js sends some mocked-up data.

yeah, do that.

okay.

define all of the calls you expect to make to the ws/js.

write up a short document that lists all the ws urls needed to support all of the functions you need to call.

mail that to me, and I'll critique it.

show me what URLs you want to use. what arugments you expect to send.

and what jsonp stuff they will return.

after that, hook up the HTML side of things to call the mock-service.

that should get you going and allow you to get some data flowing.

right.

once that is working, you and I can talk in more detail about what each of the ws function actually needs to do.

by then you should have gotten over the OMFG where do I start problem.

but realisically, if you're stuck on something, I expect you to email me.
